Yes, I know bout the FS-1118 being rebranded as T.A. and olivetti. I mainly work on the TA and olivetti versions. Glad you got your answer, and I thank you for posting the link. One of my colleagues had this problem recently, and I gave him some stuff to try, but the bastard never told me if it worked... I assume it did because otherwise I would;ve had to go to the machine. nonetheless your link will come in handy one day
you seem quite jacked up. I've never come across any techs in South-africa who is willing to research a problem until they find the solution as you did. Well Done!!! If you like this industry and you keep this up you will go far. Who do you work for if you don't mind me asking? Also, do you do software only, or do you do hardware as well?

Hi Eugene, thanks for the compliment. I work for Maynards in Cape Town who are one of two authorized Olivetti distributors in the country. The other is a company in durban as im sure you'll know.
We also do brother(desktop printers), ideal(shredders) and olympus(digital recorders). On the larger copier side we move Olivetti copiers but most of our dealers move multiple brands, hence we often get TA's, KM's etc etc in for repair. To answer your question, yes i do get my hands dirty on the hardware side although I mainly work on colour machines, installations and software(ad,smnp, ldap, print security, scanning etc) related problems/challenges.
As per that link though, there are three ways in which you could reset the fs1118. In the end i downloaded KM net viewer but ended up using good old fashioned command prompt to write the command string to the device. Thank goodness i found that link, the American who solved it did so over a year ago, so you learn something new every day. I grew up on win 3.11/95 and DOS, so call me "old school" if you will.

I have an Okidata 5150. I went to change out the Cyan and Magenta cartridges and there was ink from both all over the drums. I cleaned the drums as much as I could. I also emptied the drum of the loose ink that was in the drum. My question is ... will the loose ink cause damage in print quality if I don't get it cleaned well? Also, if so, how do I get the drums cleaned properly? Thanks!
