Compaq is now owned and supported by HP. So all of the manuals drivers and support stuff is found on HP's websites. If you sound isn't working and you have not just re-installed windows then you either have a hardware problem and possibly a driver issue. If you did just re-install windows then you need to download the chip set drivers as well as the audio drivers. Windows tries to identify and then use its own certified drivers.. Unfortunately there is usually a problem with the sound, the network or the video not working.
I've not had a lo of luck with just copying HP links here. They are dynamically generated so the link may not work. To get to support pages and downloads just go to www.hp.com and click on the support button. Then click on Support and Drivers which should get you to this page http://www8.hp.com/uk/en/support-drivers.html Next you just need to enter in the nx5000 in the search box. And that should take you to the downloads page. ( Not sure this link will work) http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?lang=en&cc=uk&prodNameId=395656&taskId=135&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=395654&lang=en&cc=uk
Once you are on that page just select your operating system and it will display what is available. You need to grab the chipset driver and run it first followed by the audio driver. Then you should have sound. You really should consider downloading and installing the rest of the drivers from the support pages. I have noticed that network and video performance tends to be better on the oem drivers. So even if those are working on the windows drivers I make it a practice to download and install all of the drivers.
