Samsung LN-T3253H 32 in. LCD Television Logo
Anonymous Posted on Sep 21, 2011

I have a Samsung LNT3253H. When I turn it on it shows the screen for about 10 seconds then goes black. I can barely see the outline of whatever is broadcast on the screen but that's it. Audio still works. Neighbor gave me the tv since he was moving so if I can fix inexpensively that would be great Thanks much.

    Hello Back2Life .
So I replaced the backlight inverter and it still turned off only with this new part it turned off in a second. When the original BL was installed it stayed on for ten seconds. The screen is completely black. no faint outline even when I flashed a light behind it.
I checked the caps and one had black on top of it without much of a bulge so I replaced it.

You said previously that there could be a problem with the 24vdc circuit on the power supply board. It could also be that the "BL ON" signal is dropping out after 10 seconds. But from your experience it's mostly the backlight inverter."
I'm returning the part to shop jimmy and will exchange it for whatever will fix it.
So what is would you do now?
    Thanks Timebandit 777

    Do you have a multimeter??

I have access to a meter. What do I do next?
    Thanks

let me backup a bit, when you bought the replacement inverter, did it have the same part # as the old board?? this is very important. Many times there are various boards for the same tv model # ???

  • Anonymous Oct 11, 2011

It was the correct replacement. That board can be used on different tv.s I didn't compare the part number on the two boards .Duh! Shop jimmy is sending another board and should have in two days.I will check the next time. So could that be the reason for it not even working as well as the original board? It worked for a second, where the original board held up for 10 seconds? I will let you know what happens when I get the part. Moving forward if this doesn't resolve the issue I was told to look at the 24vdc circuit on the power board. Not exactly clear on the best path to take. Thanks

So Shop Jimmy sent another blacklight inverter so now I know twice over that it ISN'T an inverter problem. The new part was an exact match, even the rev # matched. If it is a problem with the 24vdc circuit on the board should I replace the power board instead of fixing a part on the board? And what part on the board would I replace? Anyway thanks for all of your advice.

  • Anonymous Oct 19, 2011

I think I'm going to just buy a new power board since I can't find out anything out about the 24vdc circuit . Thanks

  • Back2life Electronics Oct 20, 2011

ok so if both inverters didn't work we can rule the inverter out. If the problem is with the 24v circuit, unless you have techical training, it would make sense to just replace the power board. But do you have a meter to verify that you're getting or not getting the 24v? Sorry it's taken so long to respond, been tied up. It could be the power board but it could also be the main board as it puts out a 3.3v-5v BL_ON signal that enables the inverter circuit. Are there any labels next to the connectors for example "5vdc" "GND" "24vdc"

Hi Again. Well I replaced the power board with a brand new board and got "Exactly" the same result. The t.v. powers up, shows a beautiful picture for 8 to 10 seconds then goes black. Plays the audio perfectly. So I put in the original power board and the t.v. did the same again. My conclusions are:
    1. It isn't a Black light converter, since I tried two of those to make sure.
    2. The power board is fine.
So if I remember correctly the main board puts out a 3.3v-5v BL_ON signal.
Can the board be fixed or do I have to replace it? Anyway there isn't much left to troubleshoot so maybe I'll just get another t.v. since the board is about $150.
So What would you do next?
    Thanks.

Sorry I meant backight Inverter not black light converter. Anyway you spell it it's not the problem with the t.v.

So two months ago I replaced the main board BN94-0118.
Nothing came up on the screen. I can't remember if it had audio.
So I put the original main board and the tv responded like it had done from the beginning which is that it shows the screen for a few seconds and then goes completely black and the audio still works.
You can even change to different channels.
So I sent the replacement board back and that company said that the board they sent was bad with no replacement in site.
    Nice.
    So my conclusion.
    1. It's not the Backlight Inverter.
    2. It's not the Power Board.
    3. It appears to be the Main Board.Out of all the things I changed the Main Board showed the most change.
    4. So now I will get another Main Board.
I did get a multimeter so now I will find out how to test with it.
Also is there a way to fix the broken Main Board?
    Thanks again.

It sounds like a backlight inverter problem, very common. However there could be a problem with the 24vdc circuit on the power supply board. It could also be that the "BL ON" signal is dropping out after 10 seconds. But from my experience it's mostly the backlight inverter. Do you have any electronics experiance?? They are readily available from shopjimmy or ebay. Prices range from $25-$40, if you go the ebay route, stick with higher rated sellers and ones that offer warranties and returns.

It is highly unlikely you can repair a TV yourself unless you have the specialised skills required. Find the local Samsung repairer and take the TV to them.

Tv screen goes black ater 10 seconds

there could be several things causing this, most often it's a defective inverter, or a bad CCFL lamp. You could also have a problem with 24vdc output from the power supply, or "backlight on circuit from the main board. Get a proper diagnoses.

Is this a laptop?
This a common problem for monitors, especially on laptops. This cause by the inverter board. The inverter boosts voltage to light the screen. When goes bad they go bad they often work for a few seconds. If you look closely you can see the screen but the voltage is not there to get brightness.

I have a samsung syncmaster 943NW which goes on for about 5 seconds and then just goes black. When restarting the screen it does the same again, goes on for about 5 seconds and then black. Is there...

I had the same problem with this monitor (Samsung 943nw)
When turned on it would only stay on for less then a full second.
When shining a light on the screen I could see what was on it, so it was just the backlight that was shutting down.

After I turned down the brightness of the monitor, the next time I powered on the screen the backlight stayed lit and it was back to normal.

Monitor goes blank after 3 seconds -Samsung SyncMaster 920NW

Could be a power issue. If it doesn't show anything at all then that may be the case. It may also be the display itself. It would be a costly repair so you might be better off finding a new monitor.
