IRiver H-140 not loading the menu

I have plugged my iRiver player to the wrong AC adapter.

At first it did not turn on; then - after a month or so - it turned on but it does not show the menu. I was able to plug it to the computer, and I did a quick format of the disk, while a complete formatting was impossible.

Considering that the menu does not show up, i can not update neither re-load the firmware: what do you suggest me to do???
