HP 2840 ink cartridge stuck

An ink cartridge is stuck in our HP 2840, and the carousel won't rotate. Is there some way we can get it out manually?
Thanks!

I just read through the 2840 Service manual. If the Carousel does not move when you push the "Carousel rotate " button, then the only way to fix the issue is to remove the carousel so that you can get to the stuck cartridge. Which cartridge is it? and what position is it stuck in? Is the stuck cartridge visisble?

Turn off machine, use a large paperclip, straighten out one side, insert paper clip in to slot on right side(white guide next to blue arroe)to deactivate the carousel clutch, this will release the clutch and you should be able to rotate carousel manually.

I've tried this and can't get it to work, I've tried the Straw trick, the paper clip and nothing is getting depressed to let the "clutch" go so it can move manually. Is it possible something else is preventing it from moving? Ranjiv_Jain@yahoo.com

Either a bad cartridge or your carousel is not synchronized properly. If you just replaced a cartridge that is likely the source of the error. You can find videos on YouTube on fixing the carousel issue.

54.2 ERROR

Hello

According to manual it means:

"Carousel rotation error: Replace the carousel drive motor or if the problem persists, replace the DC controller. It the error still persists, inspect or replace the engaging detection flag."

I think that you need to take it to service.

DRUM Q3964A FOR HP 2840

10.000x Supply error Description E-label can’t be read or print cartridge is not properly installed. Solution
  1. Reinstall print cartridge.
  2. Power cycle device.
  3. If the problem is not solved, replace the cartridge. NOTE: The software CD-ROM that came with the HP Color LaserJet 2820/2830/2840 all-one includes an animated tutorial that shows how to replace the print cartridges.
    1. Remove any media from the ADF, and then push the scanner-release button to open the scanner assembly.
    2. Open the cartridge door.
    3. Make sure that the correct print-cartridge slot is in the access position.
      • If the correct print-cartridge slot is not in the access position, close the top cover and the scanner assembly, and then press ROTATE CAROUSEL until the correct print-cartridge slot is in the correct position. Pinch together the two large blue tabs on the first cartridge, and then lift the cartridge straight up to remove it from the carousel.
    4. Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging, remove the orange cover from the print cartridge, and then pull the orange tab straight out to remove the sealing tape.
    5. Squeeze the blue release levers on the print cartridge, holding it with the roller facing you. Lower the cartridge straight down into the carousel until it is firmly in place.
      • To replace another cartridge, close the top cover and the scanner assembly, press ROTATE CAROUSEL , and then repeat the previous steps. NOTE: If a black print cartridge was replaced, then the device prompts to have a cleaning page ran, unless the device page count is less than 100 pages.
    6. Close the top cover, and then close the scanner assembly.

Replaced toner but keeps saying replace supply using black only

This happens occasionally with after-market (refurbished) cartridges. Sometimes the people rebuilding the cartridges forget to replace the microchip on the cartridge that resets the copy counter. Most reputable re-manufacturers will send you a replacement cartridge if this happens.

It could also be a carousel alignment or sensor issue inside the printer - if this is the case you will have to call HP for service.

Whatever you do, make sure you do not try to manually rotate the carousel to change out the different cartridges - each time you want to change a specific color, close up the printer first and then press the carousel rotate button that's directly under the ready light, keep pressing until the display says that it's rotating to the color you want, then open and change that color, repeat for each additional color.

Black replacement cartridge

This is an easy one, you do the black the same as each color cartridge. All four cartridges sit on a carousel that rotates.

Just keep pressing the button that's directly underneath the ready light until it says "rotating to black". After the machine stops rotating, open up the cover and put the black cartridge in.
