GE Adora Dishwasher Upper Rack Binding Issue

In April of 08 we bought all new GE Adora appliances. So far, everything has worked very well except for an issue with the upper rack of the dishwasher. When you pull the upper rack out to put dishes in, it pulls out effortlessly for the first ten inches. The last nine inches are a struggle. Same thing happens when you slide it back in. Typically, after pushing it back in, it is full of dishes including drinking glasses which always topple over because of their height, and the force required to overcome the friction of the binding roller glides. Evidently they used large plastic rollers that capture and guide the upper and lower part of the stainless steel slide assembly for the first ten inches and that part works well. The last nine inches or "extended" position utilize small rubber wheels that are captured inside the "C" channel and that is where the binding takes place. To prove it I used petrolium jelly on a Q-tip and lubricated the inside "C" of the glide and it worked perfectly for the first two or three washes until the soap action eventually did it's job and removed it. I consider this a "serious" issue as it is not user friendly.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is GE aware of it? Is there a fix?
Any information would be appriciated. budscarp at AOL dot com

I have a GE model GLD6760 and am also having problems withe the top rack not rolling out smoothly. It has the same problem with the 'C' channel and the rubber wheels inside binding. It occurs even without dishes in the rack so it does not appear to be an over load issue. Any help on this?

I have the same problem with a new GE Profile. The upper rack binds in both directions while travelling in the c channels. It is getting worse and worse.

I have the same problem with a GE Profile. The GE serviceman replaced the rack and it seemed better for a little bit but now it's worse than ever. He blamed in on our hard water. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only person with the problem but it would be nice if there was a solution.

My upper rack binds in both directions. I'm wondering if there is a better set of rollers or glide mechanism that can replace this system. Seems to be an ongoing problem.

GE repairman came out and replaced the rollers. He replaced the rollers with the old style rollers. He said the new rollers that they were using were not working as well as the ones that they have been using for the past 15-20 years. Works good now problem solved.

I have a GE Profile model PDW7800.... and just replaced the rollers on one side since one of them had broken. There is a 'magical' way to reinstall the rack so the side guides ride inside the roller guides without touching. I suspect that the rack has not been reinstalled in the precise manner - which I am still trying to figure out. The new roller assembly which attach to the rack fit differently than the original ones. I found that you do have to remove the rollers screwed into the wall to get the glides out and that could also cause rough gliding. Part of the 'binding' is designed, I believe, to keep the racks from coming out too easily.

Door will not shut when upper silverware holder is in

Make sure you are installing that silverware holder properly. The little tabs of the silverware holder are supposd to go over and around the mating bars of the upper rack. Barring that, your upper rack may be pulled (bent) out, and you may have to push it (hard) to get it back in shape.

Top rack automatically slides out upon opening door

Hi,

This is actually a feature to allow the user easy access of sliding out the top rack. A look at the parts diagram disclosed that there is no mechanism activating this and therefore could be assumed to be gravity driven. It would stop a few inches due to the action or rather inaction of the rollers which would require user intervention (pull).

The only modification I could think of is to change how the inner rails are attached by inclining it to prevent the sliding out. The idea would be to lean in the upper rack to prevent gravity from sliding it out. Am not sure if inclining the entire dishwasher would affect the overall performance but it is also a possibility.

I have taken the liberty of including the diagram of the upper track should you wish to reference it.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

KitchenAid Custom 21 Dishwasher. The arm for the upper rack does not rotate or spray when in use. Water just dribbles out, so dishes in upper rack do not get clean.

Hi,

I have an older dishwasher also and recently my wife also complained about it not cleaning right... so me being the man I am tried in vain to clean the things... Bought new spray arms online and installed them in minutes...now the thing works like new... However I have also found that if the heating element goes bad then that also can mess things up bad... So I would buy new spray arms, and also check out the heating element to make sure it is working... Here is a tip that will help you with the online buying...

How to replace the top rollers on a GE dishwasher model # gsm1800nww

Lower Rack

  • Remove all of the dishes from the lower dishwasher rack.
  • Pull the lower rack out of the dishwasher so that it rests on the dishwasher door.

Ge adora dishwasher water won't fill

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. To start with check the water inlet valve which is located behind the lower access panel on the left or right side of the Dishwasher. If the water inlet valve is bad you have to replace it, also check the main water line for clogs/obstructions. If still the issue is not resolved then it’s a bad float switch and needs to be replaced. Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee
