My printer is a dell A920. In using copy/scan I am getting a black rectangular block appearing both on preview and when I copy. No problems with the printer in ordinary mode.

    I have given the glass a good clean but still the problem remains. Is there no way of getting an update driver from Dell that would solve the black rectangle problem?

Thre is probably a speck of something on the scan lense itself which only shows when u scan.its the paort that has the light that you see when the scanner scans a page.theres going to be something on there that is causing the blot.

Its the problem of dust setteled internally in the glass ,and you would be cleaning the upperside so its comming again and again after cleaning.
remove the glass by disassembling the printer slowly and care fully.and clean the glass internally with a moist cloth. also check the upper flap.

Please reinstall your printer drivers.This should solve the problem.I'll let you know if there are any latest drivers available.

Its quite possible that the black dot is a speck of dust or dirt on the scan glass try to clean it and then try to do another copy/print.

Have you tried to power cycle the printer first? Just unplug the power cable and the USB cable for 3-5 minutes then plug it back in. Check if that removes the appearing block.

    You can try to Uninstall then Reinstall the software of your printer.

Can't print and when i did got green color


Check the level of your black ink. Double click on your printer icon. This should bring up Dell solution center. Click maintenance and it show the level of your black and color ink. If it appears you have black ink you might try clicking on your menu file, print click on preferences, check print black and white only. If you don't get a printed page. You're for sure out of black ink.
If you get a black printed copy, Double click on your printer icon, click on the maintenance tool to clean and test nozzles.

If you want to scan you will need to connect the device to a computer. For copying, place a document to be copied on the flatbed scanner and press the color or black button (as appropriate).

is there any more colour ink inside? if there is ink inside you just have to open your printers properties dialog and look for a color option that uses black only. 2. see if the colors are blocked

to get that issue resolved try downloading the latest vista drivers for the printer from the dell website and this would resolve the issue

Hi,
The all in one solution software you used in XP doesn't work fully with Vista.

But you can still scan and copy by using Windows Photo Gallery.

1. Click on files tab at the top in Window Photo Gallery.
2. Click on import from camera or scanner.
3. Highlight your scanner icon (eg Dell A920) then click import.
4. New scan window will popup, now you can preview or scan using this basic looking Vista utility.

wow..that's most likely from the scan settings..make sure that the area you are scanning in your software is showing all the image of what's on the glass..

There could be the hardware issue with the scanner.So contact the tech support incase the warranty is still there and you could getb a replacement
