Question about Brother Office Equipment & Supplies

Brother DCP-340CW The printer was working well A paper left on the top of the printer slipped into top paper feed I immediately pulled it back it had only just entered the first rollers I have never in the past two years used this facility. however I thought no more of it. Some ten minutes later I came to use the printer and had the following:- From power up. goes through start up OK & after several seconds displays unable to change on top line of display with the lower line suggests looking up trouble shooting in the manual. I have checked the entire path for paper jams checked all opto sensors for debris and all opto actuators for free movement. In the lid document feeder. I have tried it with paper in and paper out Ink in and Ink out. I successfully downloaded and installed the latest flash updates. This made no difference. I would very much appreciate your help

I had already checked the paper flag and as the unit is an inkjet I would not expect to find a fuser assembly fitted to it.

  • doug220 Sep 17, 2008

As an electronics engineer of many years standing as I had stated I had not just powered down and allowed time for the reset to take place
I left it disconnected over night then downloaded the latest firmware updates and successfully installed them.
    The problem still persists

  • doug220 Sep 17, 2008

Just to refresh this is a Brother DCP-340CW inkjet multi function printer scanner with the error "unable to change" all the things in the trouble shooting manual attaining to this error have been checked. Also the paper path and it's sensors have been checked firmware has been updated (The reset information you just gave does not relate to this printer)

  • doug220 Sep 17, 2008

Thank you, and I respect your reasoning, and in some respects agree. However the paper intrusion only just made it to the first paper sensing flag. It didn't resist being pulled back nor did it end up in the bowels of the printer. If the machine caused a major back to base shut down for a simple error that could happen on a daily basis Brother would be overloaded with returns. Also i would expect to see a statement on their web site under FAQ. this is not the case.
Also I would have thought a simple error causing a software protective halt would have been dealt with when I updated the flash firmware. Usually when updated software is written on start up it usually clears all registers and loads default settings to the new updated firmware.

Paper jam in printers:

1. Turn the printer off and open the access cover.
2. Look for any obstructions in the paper path and remove them if necessary. (It is possible to move the carrier assembly with the power off.)
3. Turn the printer on, load some paper, and press the Form Feed button.
4. Watch the paper as it feeds through and try to determine where the jam is occurring.
5. Check to see if all the rollers are turning.

If all the rollers are turning, there may be something in the feed path that you can't see. Go to step 6.
If not, there is probably a feed motor or a gear problem and the printer may require service.
6. If the paper is jamming under the carrier assembly, you may be able to fix it using the manual feed slot.
7. Turn the printer off.
8. Take a #10 envelope and feed it through the left side of the manual feed slot until it comes right through the printer to the back of the exit rollers.
9. Move it up and down first, and then slowly move it over to the right side. If something is stuck under the black guide plate, this may work it loose.

Good luck

There are a few things you can try and check

1-Disconnect the copier from the "power source" Not on & Off for several minutes to see it resets

2-the "flag sensor" in the ADF must have a spring action, this is the 1st sensor before or right after the rollers. underneath is the actual sensor that reads the position of the flag sensor, make sure it is in place and not slipped ou of position.

3-remove the rear jam cover and check

4-lift ADF and lock into place and check printhead

When you pulled the paper out, this triggered the error you are getting. The printer was not designed to spit paper out the way it came in. As it is an inkjet, paper goes through it only one way, in from the paper feed out to the paper tray. so, when you pulled out the paper the way it came in, it triggered the error. The printer needs to be taken to a service center. Most likely it is a logic board issue. Hardware failure.

Hi,

If all else fails, you may need to do a reset back to factory default settings. This page from the Brothers Solution describes the steps. Of course doing so would remove all user configurations/settings.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

What error message did you get? Just to confirm, you cannot print anymore, correct? Try to unplug the power cable and the USB cable for several minutes like 5-10 minutes then plug it back in. Then check if you can print.

Check the paper flag sensor and make sure it is not missing or misaligned (refer to your printer manual for its location.) If error persists, you’ll need to take your printer in for repair. If the paper wrinkles on the end, you probably have a bad paper out assembly. You might try to clean the inside (especially the rear rollers) and replace the paper. If the paper still wrinkles, the paper out assembly is most likely bad. Sometimes a bad fuser can cause the same problem so don't rule this out.

refill it but not necessarily with as much
paper as it can possibly hold - many printers like a little elbow room
in their paper trays. Make sure to feather the pages to eliminate
static. Hold the pages in one had and flip through the pages at a fast
rate with your thumb. If the paper tray is not empty, check for a
misfeed. A sheet may have been caught in the mechanism. There may be a
variety of printer access doors to check. Pull out any remnants. Even
the smallest piece of paper could be causing the problem, so check
carefully. Tweezers are handy for this procedure.

Brother dcp-340cw error 4F (print head), the same as error 41?

It is the printhead, it comes 2 ways, with or without the circuit board, I usually only change the printhead only and it works fine.

Error 46 and says unable to clean. can u help me plz

According to the manual, the unable to clean error means a mechanical problem or a foreign object in the machine: Open the scanner cover and remove
any foreign obstacles inside the
machine. If the error message
continues, disconnect the machine
from the power source for several
minutes then reconnect it.

Saying paper jam dcp-135c brother printer

Hello there,If the paper is lodged too far into the printer and can't be removed: Press the power button to turn the printer off.
Pull firmly on the paper to remove it. If you can't reach the paper because it is too far in, raise the front cover and remove the paper from the front of the printer.
Close the front cover.
Press the power button to turn the printer back on.
Resend your document to print.

Ensure that:
The paper is a recommended paper for Laser printers.
You do not force the paper down into the printer when you load it. For example, if you are loading letter or A4 size paper, the top edge of the paper should extend above the top of the sheet feeder.
The printer is on a flat, level surface.
The left paper guide is against the side of the paper.
You do not load too much paper in the sheet feeder. Depending on the thickness of your paper, the sheet feeder can hold up to 100 sheets of paper.
The left paper guide does not cause the paper to bend in the sheet feeder.
Your printer feeds regular paper as expected. If regular paper feeds without causing problems, load the envelopes vertically against the right side of the sheet feeder. Make sure the paper guide is against the side of the envelopes.
Envelopes or the appropriate specialty papers are selected in the printer driver.
You are using a paper or envelope size supported by your printer.
do not forget to rate this solution....good luck

I have a brother copier model dcp 7025 and am experiencing a vertical line on copies where the original is fed through the top feeder tray but the copies are fine when the original is placed directly onto...

Depends which way is vertical but I think the feed rollers on the upper tray are slipping perhaps dirty. (The paper momentarily stops feeding past the scan sensor)
