Question about Sony KV-27S10 27" TV

Open Question

Sony KV 27S10 TV

Picture too wide at top and bottom, narrows to correct width at center, juts back to the left at very top one inch. Unable to determine if it is in pincushion or deflection circuit because I don't have a crosshatch generator. Checked all associated electrolytics for leakage - tested good. One interesting thing - damper diode D501 (RGP02-17) is reading at .9 volts on the fluke diode test instead of nominal .4 to .6 volts. Anybody got a clue?

You have your information incorrect, Q is not the designation for diodes, Q657 would be a transistor. First give us the correct number for the diode and how do you know it is shorted?

This was a common problem with the Tuners of these models. The replacing of the Tuner should fix the Problem. You may be able to order it from Sony.

Your whole problem my freind is dryed up capacitors. You should go, if you have the technical ability to replace these capacitors, to http://servicemanuals.net, download the schematic diagram, and start replacing the waveshaper capacitors in the vertical drive circuit.

Screen split with black bar through center, top of picture shows in bottom

It sounds as you desribe, the vertical output IC and or the b+ feed capacitor off the Hi voltage transformer feeding the vert. IC its required voltage. Not a really hard job to replace, but not for a handi person to do. This should be left to the professional, as there are no user serviceable parts inside this set and with the HI voltage and the safety issues its best to call somesone to assist you with this repair. Good Luck
