Hi,
There is no way to test the motherboard without connecting to cpu. You can't test the motherboard until and unless you connect it to the pc. If you want to test the display, audio, graphics you have to connect each device and see. Every motherboard has got a green color light in it. When the power is on the light will glow. Thank you.....

First thing to check here is the connection make sure everything is still properly connected, if after checking it and still no light it only means the motherboard is dead and already needs a replacement, because if the power supply is bad the fan shouldn't spin if its the problem...

Hope that helps...............

The first board may be bad; the detection of input devices is done by chips other than the uProcessor.

The second board may simply be controlling the fan speed according to need and when first powered up, the processor isn't hot.

Hi melnavz,

Hello Mayfield.

Since that your computer is still booting. the processor, memory is good. The only problem you encountered is cannot hold the time when you totally unplug the unit to the wall. iN that case, maybe something wrong with your mboard. maybe there some connection or jumper that was unnoticeally remove which make the battery open circuit. Please refer to the manual of the maboard for some jumper setting.

I think that either you have a bad power supply or it is not connected properly. I suppose it could also not be supplying enough power.

Try disconnecting all of the connections to the Motherboard and reconnecting them. Make sure they seat properly. Try a new power supply. You can get a good one from Newegg.com

Hi,

Verify that all cables, connectors, components and devices are where they should be and fitted snugly to their mate/counterpart.

It could either be you video or your memory. If your PC has a built-in video then it is in all probability the memory. Either way, try removing and cleaning the gold contacts/pins using a pencil eraser. Thereafter clean the slot(s) where they are inserted using a clean paint brush or a disposable toothbrush. When reseating/re-inserting, pls make sure that you hear an audible click/snapping sound that assures you that the component was placed back in properly. At other times, wiggling the memory (or video card) a bit also helps.

Hope this be of help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Geeze, after working on hardware for 27 years i love the short circut dummie. Anyway yes, it's the motherboard / yes the green light will still come on on that model and quite a few other models. Dont worry about repairing / i.e. removing components on the motherboard, it's a fruitless endevor but a great way to waste time. A motherboard for that model will cost about 100-150 bucks / easy replacement. It's actually rare for both the power supply and mother board to go out on a tower/mini tower type system. Older laptops had that type of prob. Those emachines were **** for the mostet part. On the other hand Gateway has really gone up in quality and i have been quite impressed with them in the last few years...
