Laser lens could be dirty.
use a q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol.
use other end to dry it.
OR
use a laser lens cleaner to clean it-->get at walmart, target, etc.
hope this helps ;p

Please watch this video I have attached. The disc read error on the ps2 is a hardware problem, not something that can be fixed by a reset.Good luck!

PS2 will play any audio cd and any ps2 blue game disc. but it will not entertain a silver game disc or dvd. just keep getting Disc read error.

When you put in the dics, and on the screen says not reading disc

Disc read errors are mainly due to weak or dirty lens you should try cleaning lens first.
When your PS2 lens is covered by dust it wont allow laser to read disc so its better to clean your PS2 lens first,if problem still exists then your PS2 lens is weak and you will have to take it to Sony repairer for service.I recommend all of PS2 owners to keep their PS2 at dust free environment.

Watch this video it will help you to learn how to clean your PS2,its easy you can do it at home.
Wish you good luck and hope cleaning lens will solve your problem. Thank you!

If you have old ps2(fat one) or some of the older slim models they are unable to read the new dual layer discs like GHWT. You can send your ps2 back to sony to reformat it to be able to read these new discs for about $50. There is currently a class action lawsuit against sony and activision for not being upfront about this problem.

Read disc error

You said the model is 77001?? is that the slim type ps2?? if it is try this troubleshooting step

if the console is lying down flat where the disc lid is at the right side, try applying pressure on the lower right corner of the lid, sometimes the lid's safety button gets worn out and it will give you disc read error if this solves the problem then the button really is busted, if you have technical background you try and change the button

PS2 configuration problem

This usually happens when the lens eye is dirty or has dust particles on. To clean use a Q-tip and dip the Q-tip in rubbing alcohol or water. You want the cotton to be just damp. Gently clean the lens eye with the cotton. Then use the other side of the Q-tip to dry the access rubbing alcohol or water. You then might want to clean the disk tray. hope this fixes ya problem.
