Question about DVD & Blu-Ray Players

6 Answers

I was messing around with my dvd recorder "Insignia is-dvd100121" and I moved option 6 to E7 instead of E8 like it was supposed to be. Now my recorder shows the insignia logo, then starts rolling, reinitializes the insignia logo, rolls and so forth. I was thinking upgrading the firmware can reset it to factory default. Any idea on where and how I can find it. I know Insignia is the best buy brand for LG, but that's all the luck I've had. Unplugging the machine and hoping it resets doesn't help either.

It's an Insignia IS-dvd100121 manufactured in March of 2005. The reason I want the firmware upgrade is to get it working. If you know another way that would be great. I can't access the options screen anymore because of the constant initializing. It just says Please Wait.

Hi eldude,

There are different wasy on resetting a dvd player. But on your particular model I see that you need to do these procedures to reset your DVD player:

1.) You need to press and hold the POWER button of the unit for more than 5 seconds. This is going to force the recorder to power off.
2.) Then press the POWER button again to turn the dvd player back on.
3.) Once you do this immediately unplug the power cord, and then plug it back in once more than 5-10 seconds have passed.

Try this and see if this will fix the problem.

Hope this helps!

Peace! :)

Can another Insignia DVD Recorder be used to finalize DVD's recorded on another Insignia DVD Recorder?

Unless the Insignia recorders are both IDENTICAL models, same year of manufacture, and have the exact same firmware versions, you CANNOT finalise a disc in one unit that was recorded on another.

Above is a user manual.
Whenever we have any "Grinding" noises it is never good. Most often it is caused by the "Motor Bearing" or "Run Out" either way, it is realistically, unfixable in the home, so to speak. With a unit as sophisticated as this, it needs to be attended to by a professional.
So, it is nearly always my professional opinion that one should always get a "Quote" from the manufacturers recommended service center, Insignia, in your case, please contact a local or head office and ask for a referral to an Authorised service center. I cannot stress how important that last point is. It is even worth the cost of shipping. You see an authorised service agent, will have trained staff, trained on their brand, also they have first hand access to parts, original parts. This will actually save you money and ensure you can actually get it back fixed. Of course asking for a "Quote" also gives on the option of repair or replace. Often my clients,do not go through with repair, unless it is moderate, but in some of the more costly jobs they see it, as do i, that a replacement, with a warranty, is a better option. As an aside here, one could then tear the TV down, and sell the Known Good bits. You'd be surprised who needs parts, i myself often must by from third party sources to effect a repair. So money could be recouped, somewhat, and help out someone else.
This should not be an expensive job, with a service manual and parts on hand, for a professional it is a job that should take about an hour or so, plus the cost of "Bits" which may run about $100.00- $125.00, or so. But as related get a "Quote" before proceeding with any repair.

Instructions on how to burn from my insignia DVD to VHS

my Insignia is a different model (NS-drVCR) but I always use the "DUBBING" button on the remote (which is basically the tech-term for a Recording-Transfer). The screen-dialog then shows VHS Dubbing to DVD with quality options to choose. I'm not as familiar with going the other way (from DVD to VHS) but I know that mine can since I've done it once with a similar method, starting with the DUB-button.

Lost instructions, cannot create DVD from cam-corder recording

Thanks, I already solved the problem. There was no "Setup" button (on the remote, anyway) to follow the instructions given -- in the manual, which I downloaded!.

Instead, I remembered that "Input" often allows you to select a source for something, so when I chose THAT button, I was able to choose the port that had my cam-corder.

Then I simply pressed record on the DVD player while Play on the C-C.

Recording Late

Check your automatic clock setting. If it is on automatic, set it to manual, and set the date and time on the recorder. It may be picking up an unreliable time setting from a station that is not too accurate.

In 480p resolution, you highlight the 16.9 aspect ratio from the TV Aspect menu option in Setup and then type 1397139 on the remote. This brings up the service screen with all options and machine information.
Optimal (best) settings are as follows.
1 : f 2 2 : 35 (this is DivX)
3 : 93 (macrovision?) 4 : f f (Vcd/Svcd)
5 : f f (region free) 6 : c0 (c0 = LG logo)(ce = Insignia)
7 : 04 8 : 15
All I can say is Keep these and and dont mess around or you can kill it....
