Check the port on the laptop where you plug in the adapter. Try to wiggle and see if you have a loose AC/DC input jack.
If yes, you need to have it repaired, unfortunately. If not, remove the battery then plug the adapter and see if you can see a light or if you can boot up the laptop.
You may try plugging it in on a different wall outlet.
