I have norton symantec package on my computer which has not been used since June 2006. I am unable to uninstall the programme from the computer to put on new soft ware as I do not have the product key. How do I remove this old Norton programme Please. Mal Kirwan

If you have a Windows-based PC, go to Start --> All Programs --> Norton... --> Uninstall
If no entry for Norton is found, go to:  Start --> Control Panel --> Add or Remove Programs --> find Norton --> select Remove

Norton anti virus


The best anti virus programme in my view is Norton Anti Virus. If Norton tells you a programme is a potential problem, it is.
You can download from Symantec the uninstall programme that will remove Norton.

Need to remove norton security


  1. Please download and save SymNRT.exe to your desktop.
  2. Close all programs and double click on the tool.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  4. Restart the computer if asked.
  5. Then delete the SymNRT.exe tool from your desktop.
  6. Open the Program Files folder on your local disk ( normally C: )
  7. Find and delete the following folders (if present):
    • Norton AntiVirus
    • Norton Internet Security
    • Norton SystemWorks
    • Norton Personal Firewall

Cannot download norton 360 v4. cannot remove norton 360 premier from my computer.

If you are unable to uninstall or remove Norton 360 from your computer, kindly download and run the Norton Removal Tool to uninstall your Norton program by clicking this link.

On the page which opens, click on the correct version of the Norton product installed and then download the Removal tool from the next page which opens. Kindly read the instructions carefully before proceeding with the uninstallation.

Regarding the Norton 360 v4, are you trying to download the trial version? Also, let us know whether you get any error message while trying to download Norton 360 v4.

I am trying to remove Norton 2006 which has expired and an old version of Norton Ghost from my computer but keep encountering a problem Error 1324 (the path My Documents contains an invalid character)...


go to majorgeeks.com..they have a special uninstaller for norton, and ghost products... also if they does not work please try revo uninstaller also available at majorgeeks.com... then if that does not work which im sure it will.. use brute force uninstaller as a last resort. happy uninstall

First of all make sure you have another antivirus installed on the computer.

Download Norton Removal tool from here and run the program >>>>>>

Restart your computer and see if you can connect to the internet. If you can't then please post back making sure you tell me whether you are trying to connect wirelessly or wired.

Yes, you may. This is directly from the Symantec site:

"If you want to install Norton 360 without purchasing an additional license, then you must uninstall it from one of your existing computers before you install it on your new computer."

Unable to uninstall antivirus program

to uninstall antivirus u ve to follow this steps..
These instructions are for Windows OS platform:
  1. Go to Start>Settings>Control Panel
  2. Once in the Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove Programs
For Symantec Norton Anti-virus:
  1. Look for any items referencing either "Norton" or "Symantec" (example: "Norton Antivirus 2003" or "Symantec Script Blocker" or "Symantec Live Update"); click on the item and the select Change/Remove or Add/Remove. Follow the instructions for removing the software.
  2. After you finish check to make sure that there are no more any "Norton" or "Symantec" references.
  3. (Optional) Remove the directories used by Norton: for example: c:\Program Files\Norton Antivirus or c:\Program Files\Symantec etc.

Transfering subscription to a new computer


do a full uninstall of Norton on the other computer.

Do it through add/remove programs if you wish, then use this tool.

Symantec framework has encountered the problem


hey guys , have yall tried uninstalling and reinstalling?

for uninstalling, use the norton removal tool to securely rid your computer of everything of norton. here is the link for the removal tool.

after using the removal tool,

manually dlete excess temp files

start>run>%temp%> dlete everything here
start>run>temp> dlete evrything here
start>run>prefetch>dlete all

restart computer... then you can now install you norton.

post back what happens...
