nero says you can use either +,- dvd's I have already copied 18 dvd's in a series. possibly not completing a former program may have caused the glitch I think it is not reading that there is a disk in the writer.

Hi,

Open Nero Burning ROM.

Dismiss any startup options, clear the new program interface of any messages.
With the Nero Workspace on screen and clean, on the toolbar there is a drop down list toward the far right that when dropped down shows you your drive(s) installed and usable. If you do not see both of your burners but had before, then something has changed that needs to be checked. If you do see both drives, dismiss burning ROM and from the Nero Quick Start, click on the drop down list of Tools and in the subsequent screen choose Product Setup. From here, let Nero check for updates and install them if they're available. Once done, you may be prompted to restart just Nero or your computer as well. After doing one or both, check the drop down list again to see if both drives are in the list now.

Other things to check if you still do not have both drives in the drop down list and have installed updates.

1. first check the cable to be certain it is still connected strongly. If its an IDE cable some of these work themselves loose after time. This can occur at the back of the drive (most likely) or at the board (less likely).

2. if you have your drives set to Cable Select, but they are on the same IDE cable, try setting the jumpers at the back to Master and Slave depending on their position on the IDE cable.

3. if you know which of these drives on the cable is not being recognized shutdown and turn power OFF at the back, remove the cable and power cord while the computer is OFF. Restart to a Desktop, then, shutdown from the desktop.Remove power at the back, reattach the cable and power plug and reboot. See if Windows, finds new hardware, if so, let it look for driver updates on the Web too (takes a bit of time to do this). If Windows found new hardware, reopen Nero Burning ROM and get to a blank workspace and check the drop down list again and see if both dries are available.

4. If after doing these chores you still cannot see your second drive bay listed in Nero, check Device Manager (right click My computer and choose properties. From the My Computer properties pages select the Hardware Tab and then click on the Device Manager button. Check to see if your DVD is listed when you click on the plus sign next to CD/DVD devices. [if you have a yellow mark next to your drive, post the relevant information in the comment box below.] If its not listed and you've done the above trouble shooting, your drive is dead and you need to replace under warranty if its less than a year old and you have proof of purchase, You need to contact the drive maker's RMA web page and enter a Model and Serial Number. The serial number will disclose if it was purchased from a retailer or if you purchased it online as a system builder. In any case, these drive rarely have warranties beyond one year. You will simply have to replace the drive and fortunately you can go through NewEgg.com or TigerDirect.ca for a replacement that is slightly more than $30.

BTW, no cleaning routine will help and the only parts using a drive band today is the door open cassette eject tray. Most newer drives have direct drives. Still, if the drive tray won't open, drive a different power plug and see if this clears up your problem or not.

Sorry to bear bad news if you have to replace it, but you'll be back in business as soon as you have a replacement installed.

Regards,
Worldvet

Make sure that you run all of the calibration programs for both drives before recording on them.  They won't record until you do.
They are located in the tools section of the program in the Nero CD-DVD program.
Run the Create Disk option first.  Nero needs to know all of the capabilities of all of your CD and/opr DVD drives.

I added a dvd+/-r drive to my e machine T3065. I cannot get the system to write to the drive. I can read a cd on the drive but cannot copy anything to the drive any suggestions?

Reloaded the factory restoration disk? You rock!
Haven't heard of anyone who still has their disk, for YEARS now!

I imagine the DVD burner software was probably Nero.
Nero's good. But I would like to recommend a free burner software.
One I have used for years. (When I use it, lol!)

You have to have DVD burner software, in order to copy with a DVD drive. (Or CD burner drive)

One more thing glancing at your problem heading you stated;

I do not see DVD-R/W, listed. It has to be a Read/Write DVD unit, in order to copy. A DVD 'Burner'.

Post back in a Comment. Also would appreciate if you would post the DVD drive manufacturer, and it's model number.

Hi!! I have a Dell Vostro 1310 with Windows 7 Ultimate installed and I was burning a DVD with Nero Express when it suddenly froze. I restarted the computer and when I put a DVD back into it, it doesn't...

It is probably a nero quirk. You will not be able to read the disk you were writing as there will be no table of contents written to it which is [ossibly why it failed.
Re install Nero or load the latest updates before trying again.

Cannot copy files to DVD disks

First of all you should have the recording tab ON. Have you tried burning using Nero instead of dragging and dropping? This may solve the problem.

However, if you prefer to drag and drop, try setting the write speed to a slower setting, even if the dvd burner has faster write capabilities.

1. I do not think it is a hardware issue.

2. You can try replacing the IDE cable, but if you can read the contents of the disk it does not suggest a communication issue between the drive and mobo.

3. I do not think that the burning software is to blame, when you drag and drop you are actually using a windows based burning software that is installed with the operating system.

4. set up your files to burn through nero, let the software do the work.

I had the same issue with my dvd burner, although slightly different error messages, solved it by using nero instead.

Have just had a system re-build using foxconn 945p7ad motherboard and I now have a problem with regard to dvd burner speed. Where as I am used to a dvd burn in approx 8 mins now it takes some 60 mins for...

In the nero software, when you select DVD from the top Tab after Nero is opened. Put mouse cursor on extras, check on Get System Info and see what the setting is. Under DVD-ram drive The drive Read and write speeds will be listed that nero detects.

Next when you are running nero express and you are in the FINAL BURN Settings, What is in the dropdown display for Write speed, MAXIMUM or 1X.
