No Heat, intermittent scrap noise

Maytag Neptune MDG5500AW gas dryer has no heat after approx 5 minutes and intermittent periods of a continuous scrapping noise from back.  I removed vent hose.

I have the same problem. When the dryer first turns on the flame goes on and the dryer runs normally. After a few minutes, I hear a scrapping noise just when the coil starts to glow red, but no flame comes out.

My Maytag Neptune MDG5500AW Gas Dryer heats up for a few minutes then stops heating. any ideas? thanks!

This is usually the dryer coils have failed. They tend to fail as they heat up. They are inexpensive and easy to replace. Here is a video on replacing the dryer coils.
You will also find videos of disassembling most style dryers at the same site.

I have a Maytag Neptune gas dryer that is approx 8 yrs old and has worked great as far as drying time. The gas will now light and stay on for 15 seconds and then shut off, in 2 or 3 minutes it will light...

to me it sounds like your venting going out side,if it doesn;t get a clear flow it will come on and off the thermastate inside sencing to much heat.try unpluging the vent then try it if it stays on then you know your answer

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

I have a Maytag Neptune MDG5500AW that is not drying. It sometimes has heat but most of the time it does not. Can you help me diagnose the problem?

if it has heat the first 15 to 30 minutes and then no heat you have bad gas coils, they are located on the top of the gas valve, just remove the two phillips screws, remove the cover and change out the coils,

Neptune Gas dryer burner will not continue to fire

There's a good chance you need to replace the igniter. Careful, they are brittle !!!

Maytag Neptune gas dryer sense dry time at 99, little or no heat

If this is a gas dryer, I'd suggest an inspection by the gas company or qualified technician. If the jets aren't firing correctly, you are wasting gas and possibly creating a hazard.

MayTag Neptune MDG9700AW Gas Dryer

Check the lint tubing and also for lint underneath the dryer. There is a blockage somewhere for this to happen. This is a built in safety feature for gas dryers that others don't have.
