I can not get the tension right for the stiching

Tension is correct when the top and bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric. Tension is really a tug of war between the two threads. When they have equal pull, then the tension is where it should be. Diagnosing the stitch is the first step. Is the bobbin thread laying on the surface of the fabric? Then the top tension needs to be increased so it will pull the bobbin thread up into the fabric. The opposite occurs when too much bobbin thread comes up, then the top tension needs to be decreased.

Sometimes the bobbin tension needs to be adjusted if the top tension cannot accomplish what you want. Adjusting the bobbin tension is a tricky step because a tiny adjustment can make a huge difference. It is also difficult to reverse changes unless you first mark the original setting.

How do I set the bobbin tension

How to change the tension on a sewing machine?
Adjust your top tension if it's too tight. To decrease your top tension if it is too tight, turn your knob so the numbers are decreasing. Try ½ to 1 number lower, then test the stitches on a piece of scrap fabric. Continue until it looks even on both sides and you can no longer see the bottom thread on the top.

How do I adjust the tension on the bobbin. My stitches are too loose.

Your objective is to have the top and bobbin tension equal. Once you have set the bobbin tension you will adjust the top tension until the knot is in the center of the fabric. A good starting point for the top tension is four.
I've attached a guide to help you set your tension.

Having a problem with tension not stitching correctly what can I do to fix it

Tension depends on so many things. Material thickness, right size needle, thread, bobbin etc . If it is none of these things then you need a technician.Best wishes

Bobbin tension

Difficult to say.

Might try installing a brand new needle.
Remove the top thread, ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning.
Set the top tension to the midpoint and retest the machine. Tweak the top tension as needed.

Serger tension is off and I can't get it adjusted properly. I have a Necchi Lock machine that is 25 years old and it's been a gem. Do you know how to adjust the tension?

Do you still have the instruction manual for the machine? If you do, you get a great big gold star!

Unless this model has auto tension, there should be a tension knob or lever on each thread feed.

Open the tensions (set at zero). No access to the tension controls, raise the presser foot and this will open the tensions, if the controls are okay.

Re-thread the serger and then set the tension controls back to mid-range or lower the presser foot to re-set the auto tension function.

With the presser foot down, stitch a chain of threads and if they do not "knit" as the should - the serger needs to visit a repair shop.

Service for a serger usually begins around $100.

It could be just the timing needs to be adjusted.

If the tension controls need new springs or the controls needs to be replaced, this will add to the repair cost.

Cant get my tension right on my brother sewing machine vx 877 can you help me

Thread the machine with the presser foot up and then adjust the tension to the setting you need - general purpose sewing thread is around 4.

Threading with the foot raised is important as this opens the tension control and allows the thread to properly seat into the mechanism.

When a sewing machine is threaded with the foot down, the tension is closed and the thread cannot enter as intended and the tension control has nothing to control.

If this does not help, the machine may need the the spring in the tension control replaced. You will have to search for parts on the Internet or check with a Brother dealer.

Hold down the start button and the presser foot pivot buttons at the same time and turn on the power. The machine will make a funny noise and the test screen will come up. You then need to find the sub-menu, I think it says tensions on it but I'm not sure.
