I'm having this same problem today. TV turns on - screen is green for a bit then shuts itself off. The timer light blinks a bit then it shuts off. Anyway to fix this without going broke? This TV was so expensive...I even paid $1600 for an extended warranty from Best Buy - but that was only for 5-years. Bought this in 2002 - so that's expired. Any tips are reallly appreciated.

I had the same problem this weekend and called a repair man. He came and cleaned the contacts on the lamps. He said they had corrosion so he just used a piece of sandpaper. then he adjusted the voltage to the lamps. He said it may not last and may be a sign of the lamp going out but works fine now.

The 6 blinks is happening be cause the set has lost high voltage and shut down due to the green CRT needing replacement. You should be able to get a replacement Green CRT from www.tvrepairworld.com

My Sony Projection TV Model # KP-51HW40 currently has a GREEN screen, no picture, and only sound coming from the TV. HELP what is the part that needs to be replaced

Sounds like the Green CRT drive board is needing replacement. The Green CRT could also be bad but usually the set will shut down if its the CRT, so I would try the Green CRT drive you can get one from www.tvrepairworld.com

My KP-51HW40 clicks off after running for a period. The red power light blinks when it goes off but screen stays dark. When TV is shut off for a while it restarts and runs fine. The "On"...

Hi,
KP-51HW40 shuts off due to incorrect white balance and blue arch lines is an evidence of that incorrect white balance. I hope tv standby red light would flashing 5 times then 3 seconds pause and again 5 times when tv shuts down.
This is rear projection tv that has three picture tubes (red-green-blue) inside to generate picture that projected at front screen. These three picture tubes must be drive with correct drive voltage to produce good picture of each color.
Solution for your tv problem is Screen Voltage adjustment that can be done easily if you are handy with electronics stuff repair.
Let me know your expertise level to guide you more and if you feel unconformable by tv repair then local tv repairman will help you to adjust white balance in tv.
Hope these info will help you.
Let me know if you have additional questions.
Thanks.

Sony KP-511HW40 fleshing with green color and shuts off

this is a common fault adjust the little black box in front behind the small wooden cover. you will see 6 controls don't adjust any of the top 3 only the bottom knobs 1 for each color. slowly back the control counterclockwise turn the set on and wait untill it shows a picture, slowly adjust the control for the color in question utill the color balance is correct- black and white with the color setting turned down all the way with the user menu when balance is ok you are all set.. turn the color back up with user control. rtepeat process if needed.

KP-51HW40 Sony 51" Fades to blue screen

The service manual on page 8 shows how to adjust the Red/Blue/Green screen voltages. To get to the adjustment board, take the front speaker grill off (two screws at the bottom left and right) and set it aside. No need to disconnect any wires. Then remove the plywood board with 4 screws that exposes the screen/focus adjustments. The top 3 adjustments are for focus, and you need not mess with these. The bottom 3 adjustments are for Red/Blue/Green screen voltage rough adjustments. My screen showed red lines, so I had to turn the bottom right adjustment with a philips head screwdriver just slightly until the red gun retrace lines where no longer visible.

Green flashes then tv turns off

or a new lamp. you could first replace the lamp.
the screen might work fine for a couple of seconds, but then it fades away or deteriorates. This means the lamp is going bad.
