Question about Acer TravelMate 2300 Notebook

1 Answer

Acer travelmate 2410

My computer monitor will sometimes come on at start but then the backlight turns off after 6 minutes. Sometimes it does not turn on at all. If I hit the ctrl and F6 keys at the same time multiple times in quick cession the backlight will come on for a short period of time. This seems to rule out the inverter.

This doesn't necessarily rule out the inverter. I've had inverters with intermittent problems that had the same effect, so having the inverter tested is the only way to rule it out. Other possibilities are a bad connection, a corroded/dirty pin or socket in a connector, a bad ribbon/cable, and a failing backlight. If it is a failing backlight, the entire screen will need replaced, as the screen is considered a sealed unit and the backlight isn't available and not considered a replaceable item. Also, it's rare, but it could have a faulty motherboard component or video card. I'm leaning towards a faulty backlight, but keep in mind the inverter and cable possibility. Start by checking and cleaning all connections.

I have an Acer AL1912 that when you plug in the ac, the green power light will blink for about a minute and a half then go solid. The backlight will come on and you can see a faint ghost of vertical lines...

If it is still in warranty call the manufacturer.
if not give more info elah4@zoominternet.net. May be somthing simple like a cable
shutdown computer unplug then disconnect the video cable on the computer from the monitor, plug monitor back in and turn it on, there should be a display that says no video source within a few seconds, if unit is working properly. shutdown and connect video again and then reboot computer. sometimes it just takes a compleat power disconect to reset things,

If this happened suddenly, the backlight power supply (inverter)  has probably failed. It could be the backlight itself but they normally will dim or flicker before they die.
Try shining a light at an angle on the display with the computer turned on and look at it from an angle too. You may be able to see video very faintly; if you do, then it is as described above; a backlight problem, not the LCD display itself.

Acer Travelmate 201T most times no display

If the backlight is coming on its not the inverter, check the ribbon cable for the screen itself, If its been opened and closed alot maybe be time to replace the screen. Check connections first, go from there.

Travelmate 2400 monitor turns off

First try going into the display properties, in the screen saver tab you will see a button marked power, click on this and set the screen to never. This will set the screen to stay on, however, this is most likely a problem with the screen inverter or the screen itself. Check the screen connections, they sometimes work loose. At this point all that's left is the screen and inverter.

MONITOR PROBLEM

This may not be a Monitor problem. So if you can try to get to test monitor on another computer. Check carefully the data cable to ensure there are no bent pins. If it turnout to be a monitor problem then at only 6 months -Acer should replace it. If the monitor works - you should have the graphics card on the computer checked out. If you feel you can do this - and you can- basic checks come back as another request.
