THE USB PORT THAT MY GARMIN NUVI 270 IS PLUGGED IN TO IS NOT RECOGNIZED BY MY COMPUTER

GARMIN NOT RECOGNIZED BY COMPUTER YET NO DEVICE PROBLEMS

I have the same problem. My Nuvi 765t refuses to be detected by my PC or my Mac. The USB cable works just fine when connecting my cell phone(s) to either machine, but the Nuvi cannot be detected. The Windows system does make the sound that a device is connected, but nothing else happens and the WebUpdater cannot locate the device. After a minute or so, the Nuvi gives up and continues it boot-up cycle. Can anyone help?

If they don't give you a new one under warranty, are third party Garmin repair services that will fix it for cheap. Also, I found an DYI GPS repair guide,so you can do it yourself too, not that difficult to solder in a new USB port.

Garmin usb not recognized by windows 7

Has your PC ever been able to recognize the Nuvi? A common problem on the Nuvi 11xx, 12xx, 13xx & 14xx are broken connections between the rear USB port and the printed circuit board. This will prevent communication between a PC and the Nuvi. It can also affect charging.

Have you tried the unit on a different PC or operating system?

Computer doesn't recognize garmin

Your computer uses USB Mass Storage Mode to detect your Garmin unit. If your computer does not detect your Garmin unit, you can try these troubleshooting steps:

Unplug the USB cable from the computer.
Turn the unit off and then back on again.
Plug the USB cable into your computer.
The unit either automatically goes into USB Mass Storage Mode or displays USB Mass Storage Mode as an option on the screen.

Note: If your computer still does not detect the unit, make sure that you plug the USB cable directly into the computer USB port and not the USB hub. If the cable is already plugged directly into the computer, try plugging it into a different port.

If you still experience problems, please contact Product Support.

Garmin nuvi 205 is not recognized by garmin updater or by garmin site while trying to register

Make sure that your 205 is fully charged and that the usb cable is plugged directly into a usb port on your computer and not thru a usb hub.

My Garmin Nuvi 270 will not work when charging on the computer or in the car. It just shows the computer connection picture. Once I unplug it, it functions normally. I would like to have it plugged into...

It's normal for it not to work when plugged into the computer. It's not meant to work so changes can be made to it's software or maps, like updates, through the computer. These would not be possible if the satnav was operating.

When it's plugged into the car charger it should work. The problem is caused by wear on the mini USB socket on the back of the satnav. It appears that the mini USB plug is pushed in fully when it's not. Push it in further and the problem will be solved.

My Garmin Nuvi 270 has a charging problem. When I plug the car charger it automatically goes to computer charging mode and does not allow me to navigate and charge at the same time. I always charge the GPS...

This is because the socket in the back of the satnav is worn and prevents the mini USB plug being pushed in fully. Push it in further and it will be ok.

I just bought a Garmin 265WT. I ran the registration program, but the computer does not recognize the Nuvi. I've checked My Computer and it does not show a new drive ( the Nuvi should like like a drive...

Hi,

Try these steps:-

  • Unplug the USB cable from the computer.
  • Turn the unit off and then back on again.
  • Plug the USB cable into your computer.
  • The unit either automatically goes into USB Mass Storage Mode or displays USB Mass Storage Mode as an option on the screen.

Note: If your computer still does not detect the unit, make sure that you plug the USB cable directly into the computer USB port and not the USB hub. If the cable is already plugged directly into the computer, try plugging it into a different port.

Also, in some cases the operating system does not support the device. Try upgrading it to the next higher level. In most of the cases windows Xp service pack 2 does not recognise this Garmin device. Try upgrading it to service pack 3.
If you are still experiencing the problem then you will need to contact Garmin for repair.
Thanks for using Fixya.
Good Luck and have a nice day.

Computer can't locate connected nuvi 270

Are you using the latest Garmin program called WEBUPDATER Version 2.9.1.0 that was released about December 2009??
Try again:
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;} To download the latest unit software visit Garmin website: www.garmin.com/webupdater
After installing WebUpdater once from the Garmin website, perform all future software updates from your computer. Simply connect your compatible Garmin device to your computer, then run WebUpdater from your computer's "Start Menu" by selecting "Start", "Programs", "Garmin", and finally "WebUpdater"
REMEMBER: It takes hours to do a complete a map update.
Unless you bought the Lifetime maps you may have to pay for current maps.

Windows XP will not recognize Garmin 200W

I had the same issue. I would plug it in and it would recognize the device then it would disappear.

What I did to solve the problem was to first turn on my Gamin 200w. After it was finished loading maps then I plugged in in to the usb port. My machine recognized the device without any problems. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium. Hope that helps.
