Print cartridge reset

I refill my own cartridges, can you tell me if there is an easy way to reset the cartridge so it does not report it is empty? I am a computer consultant and love the printer but I do so much printing that this is the only way that works well for me. I am retired because of medical problems and I work to keep busy and don't charge most of my customers as they have no money, most are disabled. It gets very expensive but refilling my old HP worked great but I do like all other aspects of the Kodak printer better than the HP line. I hope you can give me an answer, Thanks Bob

It sounds like you work for Kodak because they say the exact same thing, but I have reloaded ink and had none spill in my printer and it still prints perfectly. You are correct it is a foam block that has ink absorbed into it and very easy to add more ink to the foam without getting it all over the printer. The only problem is that I can't reset the cartridge and it still says it is out of ink so I am not sure how this cartridge determines the ink level because there is ink in the cartridge and it still says it is empty.

I figured that you did work for Kodak. Your statement is untrue because I have refilled them prior to them becoming completely empty and they still printed with the great quality that I have come to trust from this Kodak printer and there was no ink leaking problems.

As far as the chip in the cartridge if it can be changed to say that it is empty then it can be changed back the other way. This may be a hard task to do because of the design but anything that can be programmed can be changed, only read only devices can't be changed and this can't be read only because it does get changed.

To be honest it is designed to try and keep people from refilling the cartridge because it only registers one way, once it shows ink going down it will not go back up so it forces me to replace ink more often so that it doesn't register the loss of ink and yes that does work excellent but it is a pain. I have refilled one cartridge many times and it still prints with high quality and no ink leakage. HP did the same with some of there cartridges but as you can guess someone reverse engineered the program and found a way to reset it. I am sure that if it has not been done for this Kodak cartridge yet it will be in the future.

That is your opinion and just because you can keep saying it does not make it correct. If the chip can be programmed to say it is full obviously it can be programmed to say it is empty.

When you say something can't be done all you are really doing is saying that you can't see a way it can be done, if we all had that perspective we would not be chatting on a computer much less the Internet. I already proved half your statement as incorrect and I am sure in time the rest will be also. I see that this is still listed as not being solved. Like I had said before you cannot refill these cartridges or you're going to have image quality problems or ink leaking in your printer.

The reason you can't reset the cartridges is because of the fact that there's a chip on them so once it's empty it registers as empty it can't be changed.....and yes, I do work for Kodak.

  • faerie2007 Nov 01, 2008

Well if you choose to do that than go ahead. I'm done.

Has this problem been solved yet at all?, I've had my Kodak ESP-3 for nearly two years now and have spent countless ammounts of money on replacement cartridges due to the fact the chip registers the cartridge empty after so many uses, This is getting beyond a joke Ive jus installed two new cartridges and made 4 small prints on 4x6 paper and the ink is down to 75% and 60% allready, this is not good value for money, I never had this problem on my previous HP, Epson and Lexmark printers.

I,ve seen the same thing. I bought a new cartridge and printed the same day more than 50 pictures. With other cartridges i didn't use at al, in two months only putting on the printer to make a scan the cartridge was empty. So now i'm searching to a possibility to reset the cartridge so i can use the printer to scan only documents. I've seen it cannot scan when the cartridge is empty, so i want to keep the cartridge full. But even when you don't use it, after some time it will be empty!!!

SOURCE: print cartridge reset

The printer will always tell you if the cartridge is empty if it is. The cartridges for the all-in-ones can't be refilled. The reason they can't be refilled is because in the ink tank is foam kind of like in a marker. Refilling it would most likely cause problems with printing. You can order off of www.kodak.com though if you have you don't have time to go to the store.

Ink reset HP J6410

Unfortunately, you cannot reset the HP 74-75 ink cartridge ink level monitoring feature once they are empty (either refilled, remanufactured or compatible ink cartridges)...however print operations are still permitted. Watch this 'Low Ink Warning video' for all printer models which use the HP 74-75 ink cartridges:

HP 74, 75, 74XL, 75XL Cartridge Refills - Solving Errors & Warnings: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5ISTGyScWU

Diagnostic Tap 41 Test (verifies electrical health of ink cartridges): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fE-IM4AVMc

NOTE: To access the diagnostics menu on the HP Officejet J5700 or J6400 series printers, select * and # keys simultaneously and enter 124 (or 123). From there you can access the Reports Menu, 'print-mech tap test and run the diagnostic code=41 test (see video above for reference) - this will tell you the exact health of your ink cartridges. To run it I think you'll need to access via '124' access code for the HP OJ J64xx printer series.

Can u help me with resetting my Lexmark x7350? i revilled my cartridges, and now the printer says my color cardridge is allmost empty. Thank you!

Once the Lexmark cartridge is refilled, it can no longer report it's ink level. ). You should be aware that a refilled cartridge will not be able to report its ink level, and you might not get the print quality you expect from ink that is specially formulated by Lexmark to pass through microscopic nozzles at extremely high temperatures.

We have a Dell 944 showing Error 1102 consult user guide...cannot find the user guide. We just replaced color ink cartridge with a re-processed one ordered online. Please advise...many thanks!.

Hi there
Dell Printer 944 error message 1102
Please unplug the printer from the wall. Now remove the power brick from the back of the printer for 60 seconds. Now plug everything back in. This will reset any error messages the printer has. Now open the printer with the power on and the cartridges should go to the center to be replaced. Take out both Dell Series 5 ink cartridges and make sure the tape is off the cartridges and insert both back in and make sure the seat properly and latch. Close the printer and it should print an alignment page. If you still get the error message

Why does my Dell ink cartridge level still show up as "low ink" after refilling them?
Dell ink cartridges have a sensor that reports the ink level as low once it reaches a certain level. The sensor can not
be reset. If you refill an ink cartridge that previously reported low ink, it may print fine, but the sensor will always
report low ink. Buying or replacing ink cartridges with new Dell cartridges will resolve the low ink message.

Dell discourages ink refills. Refilling ink may lead to print quality problems, and even eventual hardware problems.
This post is in no way a validation of refilling ink cartridges.

Why my printer is reporting “low ink" after using refilled/remanufactured ink cartridges?
Most ink cartridges have sensors that report the ink level. The “Low Ink” is usually the last sensor (fuse) before
running out of ink.

Since the sensors are fuses that open when the ink level drops, they cannot be reset. If you are using refill or
remanufactured ink cartridges, the best thing to do is to disable “ink alerts” on the printer’s software so you don’t keep
getting “low ink” messages.

To disable “Ink Alerts” on Dell inkjet printers:
1. Open the Dell printer software (All-In One Center, Tool Box, etc)
2. Go to Settings
3. Advanced
4. More Options
5. In the “Appearance Mode, window, check “Never display the Printing Status window” and “Display the low
ink alert only when the cartridges are almost empty.
Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

My canon printer mp190 ran out of ink while printing. The ink was a refill. I bought new refill cartridges for color and black and cannot get it to reset. It keeps flashing E at me. I have held the reset...

well, you need to get NEW cartridges because there is a NON-resetable ink level sensor, once that detect no ink is left in the cartridge, it reports a empty cartridge to the printer, no way to change that, the only fix is to replace the cartridge with a new one, on epson printers you can reset the sensor, most other brands you cant

Printer has new ink but always states all the colors & blaack are almost empty. How do I get it to reset to full and print again?

Run the software that was installed from the CD-ROM that came with the printer. There could be a "tool" to do the "reset" (or to tell the print device-driver to re-query the printer, rather than just "estimating" how much ink would theoretically be used as each page is printed).

Note that some refilled cartridges will _always_ report as "empty"l.
The company that refilled the cartridges will tell you if they were unable
to "reset" the cartridge when they added the ink to refill it.

Refilled ink cartridge but it says cartridge is empty how do i reset my printer?

No
Actually each original cartridge has a sensor that reports back to the printer information like ink level and others.
Once the cartridge gets empty, there is no way to reset it, even though you just refill it.

Please don't forget to rate this answer if it helps.

Ink Refill

You have refilled the ink that is why it reports low ink.
The explanation for this, is that the ink cartridge estimates the ink level by using the number of pages you have printed. Once you have reached a pre-programmed number of pages, the ink cartridge reports that it is empty; but it is not necessarily empty.
If it prints then continue printing. However, it will always give a low ink warning. Remember to get it refilled once the pages start getting missing text (or graphics).
If you cannot print, then you will either have to purchase a new cartridge or ask the person at the refill shop to reset it, if it is possible.

Ink cartridge

You basically got scammed on that purchase. The important detail they didn't tell you was that the chips need to be reset on these cartridges. By resetting the chip you are telling the printer it has a full cartridge. Once the chip thinks the cartridge is empty it will cease to print. That's why you got the cartridge to print some and then it quit. You don't necessarily have to buy original Canon cartridges, but you do need to make sure you are buying refills with reset chips. I recommend Cartridge World for refills. I would stay away from internet sellers because they pull stuff like this on you and give you terrible ink.
