My guess is that you on have your axes turned off and two that your window is not showing your graph cause it is out of range. You don't need to turn off you calculator. If you can just press clear you should return to the homescreen. So to fix this go to window and put the values as X min:-10 X max:10 ymin:-10 and Ymax:10 then go to 2nd format and turn on x and y axises. and graphing something simple like just y=2 to see if it appears.

Screen just went blank - can bearly see a faint box in the screen

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

The word "off" is above the red button AC. I press it, nothing happens-a cursor keeps flashing and the figure 0. is showing

If you want the All Clear function, press the AC key. If you want to turn the calculator off, press SHIFT then AC. The functions marked above the keys are the shifted functions of that key.

My TI-84 Plus calculator won't work. It won't switch off by itself. When the batteries are reinserted, it says that all RAM has been cleared. When i press the 'ON' button again, the screen clears. but...

The Ram cleared message is normal after you change batteries. When you see this message you press the CLEAR button to erase it. You do not press the ON button again because the calculator is already ON. If you want to turn calculator OFF you press [2nd][ON] (OFF).

On certain calculators, pressing the ON button when calculator is already ON is interpreted as INTERRUPT the current command.

Hi Anne,
here are some tips to use your TI 83 calculator. Patiently follows this:

  1. Press ENTER to find out the answer to an expression.
  2. Press 2ND before pressing a button to use the function in yellow above the button.
  3. Press ALPHA to enter in letters.
  4. Press 2ND before pressing Alpha to turn on Alpha lock, which will automatically use the alpha mode until you press a directional key or ALPHA again.
  5. Press 2ND and then hold up or down to adjust the screen contrast accordingly.
Advanced Instructions
  1. Press MODE to go to a menu that allows to change graphing modes, degree modes, and notation modes among other things.
  2. Enter in a number then press STO> then enter in a letter and hit enter to store values in variables.
  3. Press Y= and enter in a function and then press GRAPH to view it. If you are having trouble viewing it, press WINDOW and adjust the graph's window.

Frozen, 'snowy' screen...HELP!!!

The only solution that I can think of that might work would be connecting the Ti to another Ti of similarly close models and use the "sendOS" function on the working one, this should reset the crapped one to a functioning setup.

This does require the special wire they have for connection 2 calculators together... probably can get it on ebay or something if you don't have it already and just borrow a friend calc in class or something...

i found this somewhere else on this website
and it worked for my broken ti-83plus which had same odd startup symptoms.

Remove one of the AAA batteries.
Press and hold CLEAR while reinstalling the AAA battery.
Continue holding CLEAR button and press ON.
Release buttons and press CLEAR again.
Calculator should be normal mode now. ;0)
