Tv turns itself off and won't stay on

Most likely your problem is caused by a fault on the Vertical Stablization board on the Red CRT. Remove the speaker grill, then remove the screws that hold the mounting board that contain the speakers. Look inside the TV2_bing.gif to the left. You should see the Red CRT. On the side of the yoke towards the bottom of the Red CRT, you should see a gray or dark plastic housing. You should see wires with a with white plug on the end, that plugs into a board on the side of the Red CRT. That's the Vertical Stablizer board. Take a piece of wood and lightly move the wires over to one side while turning the power button on. Your TV will most likely power up.

This is the #1 cause of most of the Flashing Green Light Of Death Problems you see with so many of the Mitsubishi Rear Projection TV's2_bing.gif made since about 2000. The reason for it is because Mitsubishi runs the power feed into that board, then daisy chains it over to the Center CRT, which then feeds to the CRT on the right. It's causing the Red CRT's Vertical Stablization board to be overloaded on the power feed circuit, thereby causing the contact on the little PC board2_bing.gif to burn. If you are good at soldering, you can mostly likely get behind the connector where the plug goes, and resolder the terminals, making sure you first unplug the tv, and let is sit for at least a half hour before working on it. Wouldn't want you to get electrocuted and have a bad case of the frizzies. In the event you don't feel confident enough to fix this yourself, either find a tech with Mitsubishi experience, or a friend who is comfortable doing the soldering repair. Also keep in mind that the small PC board may not be repairable, in which case you may want to get a tech give you a quote to repair it, or scrap it and get another TV if it's not cost effective to repair.

Good Luck and hose this helps.

Panasonic (PT-56HX41PF) rear-projection tv with no picture

The three blinks indicates a convergence IC fault. The convergence ICs must be replaced with the manufacturer replacement part. Use only the original replacement part. Your set uses STK392-110 convergence ICs.
These ICs are mounted on a large heat sink. Yes, you can replace it yourself and save few hundred bucks. But you must be knowledgeable enough on how to solder, resolder and use a multimeter.
You will need:
  1. Convergence ICs
  2. Heat sink grease or thermal compound
  3. Soldering iron
  4. Solder lead.
  5. Digital multimeter
  6. Solder pump
  7. Small side cutter
Feel free to inform me if you decide to replace the ICs yourself

It tries to come on but goes back off and then i smell something burning. Is this even worth fixing

Yes it's usually worth repair - likely the flback transformer is bad (arching) or power supply problems(ball park $200-400). Check what a local repair shop charges for a service call/estimate on site and decide from there.

The picture is really blurry it looks 3-d. what can i do? it has been getting worse everyday. it doesnt matter if i turn it off, unplug it or anything, it stays blurry and 3-d looking

This is a very common problem for this TV. You have a blown solder in fuse by the high-voltage transformer. It is caused by bad solder connections on the transformer itself. Solder the transformer and replace the fuse and you'll be as good as new! An honest professional should not charge more than $200 to do this.

I bought a toshiba and it worked perfect when I bought it, but now the red, green and blue hues are out of allignment. I called a few repair places and they said that it may need a board. I wondered if you...

If you can solder, you should be able to fix this yourself. Realize that there are dangerous high voltages present inside the set even when unplugged. That being said, the problem you describe is in the convergence circuit. Yes you can purchase the convergence board at multiple hundreds of $$ or you can locate the convergence ICs and try resoldering the pins first. If the resoldering does not resolve the problem, replace the ICs. These run around $25 each or so (there will be 2). These are large black ICs attached to a heatsink and will be marked STKxxx.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Black screen and red timer light is on

It may be the problem of the Dish connection or stablizer. Remove the stablizer and connect the Tv direct to switch board and re connect the dish connection. Then switch on the TV it will work.

I have a Hitachi Plasma TV model 55HDS69 that recently went black while being watched. I turned the main power off and unpluged it overnight and tried turning it back on, but only the red standby light...

Do it again, only this time unplug any video and audio inputs and outputs, unplug it from any power source, and leave it sit overnight.

I had the same problem with my Hitachi. I called a local repair shop and he said to unplug it for 10 minutes and start it again. That didn't work so I got it ready to take to the shop. I disconnected everything. The next morning I decided to check it one more time so I reconnected everything. It worked just as it had before.

I hope it works for you.

No Picture Audio Only

It sound like the components are ok. Are any of the component leads discolored from excessive heat? If so it may be that the resolder looks ok but is not actually adhering to the lead. Use solder wick or a desolder iron to remove the old solder, clean the lead(s) by scraping with a sharp knife edge to bare good metal and resolder.
