OK, this one's a few years old. First, of course, disconnect power to the machine. Second, remove the two phillips head screws, one at L and one at R near the bottom corners of the front panel. Third, pull the bottom of the front panel toward you and unhook it from the dryer's top. Swing it to the side. You do not have to disconnect the wires to the door switch. Fourth, remove the four 5/16 hex head screws holding the drum supports and set it aside. Fifth, put belt around the drum. The smooth side of the belt touches the drum. Sixth, belt goes to the motor drive pulley and then around the belt tensioning idler pulley. Seventh, put the drum support part back on and turn the drum by hand to make sure the belt tracks OK and has no twists in it. Eighth, finish reassembly and test. Note: genuine Maytag belts usually have installation instructions on the back of the package, with a couple diagrams.

Belt installation is too loose on Maytag dryer model # pye2300ayw? Trying to fix it need a diagram??

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
If the belt is loose it is most likely stretched / worn and should be replaced:

The idler (item5) of this drawing:

The drive belt is item 5 this link:

The top must be opened and the front panel removed to install the belt.

Make sure to inspect the rear drum rollers while you have the dryer open. Item 7 this link:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=46651&diagram_id=695560#d695560
Flat drum rollers or hard to turn rollers will cause the new belt to fail prematurely.

Additionally if the front or rear drum seals are worn it can cause the belt to be loose. These are glued on with high temp adhesive.
The front seal is item 10 this link:

The rear seal is item 2 this link:

High temp adhesive: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/part_details.aspx?part_id=4284239

By replacing the items above your dryer will operate like new again and extend the life of your dryer by many years.

The barrel doesn't turn

This dryer is belt driven. You did not mention if the motor was running or not but, I am going to assume that the motor is in fact running and the drum is not turning. There is not a belt safety switch on this dryer so if the belt breaks the motor will run but the drum will not turn.

Maytag gas dryer broken tumber belt. how do i replace it myself? the tumbler doesn't turn, the belt thah goes around it is broken. i need to put a new belt on.

Each dryer is made differently on how to access the drum (tumbler) and belt replacement. If you can provide a model #, that would be very helpful. On most dryers the model# is located on the door frame usually to the left when you open the door. This will get you started in the right direction.

How do i replace the belt on dryer

Instructions Things You'll Need:
  • Flathead screwdriver Phillips screwdriver Assistant
  1. Step 1 Look up your specific model number and buy a replacement belt from a Maytag dealer or a third-party supplier of replacement appliance parts.
  2. Step 2 Unplug the dryer and remove the exhaust vent tube from the back.
  3. Step 3 Pull out the lint screen. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws around the lint screen housing.
  4. Step 4 Slide the blade of a flat screwdriver underneath the top panel at one of the front corners of the machine. Pry the top panel up slowly, being careful to not nick or scratch the finish. You should hear a snap when you've lifted the panel high enough; that noise is just the latch releasing.
  5. Step 5 Repeat Step 4 on the other front corner of the machine and then lift the hinged lid up.
  6. Step 6 Firmly grasp the top edge of the front panel of the dryer. Wiggle it to the front and back slightly as you lift upward, and the panel should come loose from the latches holding it in place.
  7. Step 7 Slide the front panel forward while your assistant supports the inner drum. Pull the front panel completely off of the machine.
  8. Step 8 Reach underneath the drum and pull out the broken belt.
  9. Step 9 Slip the replacement belt around the drum while your assistant continues to support the front of the drum. Turn the belt so the grooved side fits into the visible grooves around the circumference of the drum.
  10. Step 10 Get on the floor again and locate the motor underneath the drum. You will see two round pulleys; the larger one is the motor pulley and the smaller one is the idler pulley. Grab a section of the slackened belt, fold it in half and push the loop underneath the idler pulley. Wrap the loop around the motor pulley.
  11. Step 11 Push the idler pulley to the side, away from the motor. The grooves on the pulley should fit just right with the belt, and moving the pulley over should create tension in the belt all the way around the drum.
  12. Step 12 Slide the front panel back up against the machine, working with your assistant to fit the front of the drum into place. When the drum is secured to the front panel, slide the panel straight down into place. You may hear or feel it lock into place when you've pushed down far enough.
  13. Step 13 Lower the top panel and push it down until it snaps into place. Replace the screws surrounding the lint screen housing and put the lint screen back.
  14. Step 14 Reattach the exhaust vent tube and the electrical plug.

How do I replace the dryer belt on a maytag dryer model #pye2300ayw. How do you connect to the pulley and get the belt around the drum?

lift the hood by pushing in clip on either side. remove two screw at top inside to remove front. unplug first. thats as far as we go there. remove belt out of dryer. take new belt and put on drum groove side down, get it uniform around drum. putting belt on pulley might be easier to do from behind for you. two screws to remove small access panel.take belt under pulley and over and around motor pulley. turn drum slowiy to make sure belt is not twisted. this belt can only go on a couple ways and one is obviously wrong. good luck.

Help Changing Belt on Maytag PYET444AYW dryer

Normally if it is a front loading machine then you need to take the front of the dryer off.
This will expose the drum, roller, etc.
Remove the drum, install new belt on the motor pulley, loop around the idle arm roller, then install on the drum and reinstall the drum, reinstall the front and job complete
