Shutdown your pc. Turn it on, then hold the F8 key. If nothing happens and goes into windows, your keyboard is damaged.  You can contact Compaq support to have it fixed if your under warranty. If your out of warranty, you may want to dismantle the keyboard and check its connection leading to the motherboard. You may want to remove it and reseat it again.
Hope this helps.

I suspect that your keyboard has developed and fault and needs replacing. This can happen, where a block of keys stops working. You will need to arrange for a replacement keyboard to be fitted.

If the keyboard is not working, you could either get a replacement somewhere and replace it yourself or send it in to a computer shop and they should fix it all for you (if possible).

Compaq Presario C700 numbers showing up instead of letters

Either address your "Num Lock" Key keyboard or your "Fn" Key on your keyboard. Either of these, or a combination of both should solve the issue.

Please let us know if you need anything else.

I have a laptop where the enter button and delete button dont function(and I know why cos my brothers mrs soft cow spilt wine over the keyboard) anyway it dont bother me much cos I use the mouse for most things ; but if I need to have use of enter or delete I either plug in an external keyboard or I use the on screen keyboard. (start...all programs....accessories...accessability)
you can also get a roll up keypad, usb.last option you'll have to go ebay for keyboard

Compaq Presario 700 PC Notebook keyboard locking out

Check that your notebook power settings are correct, it may be that when you press off or shutdown it's actually going into hibernation or standby, this is only correct when you close the lid without shutting down through Windows. As for Windows Media Player, you cannot remove it as it's a Windows component, you can only dissable it through Add/Remove programmes>Add/Remove Windows Components.
