Question about Sony Walkman NWZ-S616F MP3 Player

1 Answer

No connection on either screen

Recently my walkman is not registering a connection when plugged into my Vaio laptop. The sockets and lead are fine and I'm able to play music but cannot sync both. Am quite a new user and don't know what to do. Any ideas?

Mine lights up when it is plugged in, but other than that it won't charge or anything. It knows it's connected, there must not be anything wrong with the cable. It makes me sad. :(

My Player has become unreadable by my computer. I thought this was due to a corrupted file, so I formatted the player to delete the corrupted file. The player is still undetected by my computer. How can I solve this problem?

Instead of making the two toned noise, I get a sound that is three of the same pitch and it isn't recognizing my player. I've tried different ports and even different computers and nothing can recognize it.

Can't connect to computer with NWZ-A816 Sony walkman.

I figured it out!

It used to be that when I plugged my walkman into my PC, the screen would read "connecting" but would never actually connect, so I couldn't add/remove songs from the walkman or even recharge it. The solution is easy. Plug your walkman into your PC, and then go to

Control Panel --> Device Manager --> Portable Devices --> Walkman

If you have the same problem as me, the Walkman icon will appear with a yellow exclaimation mark, signifying a problem. Just right click the icon, and selecte "Uninstall". After that, the driver will be removed from the PC. Now, unplug your walkman from the PC, and then re-plug it in, and the driver on the Walkman will automatically upload to the PC, and everything should be back to normal and the Walkman should work perfectly.

The problem is that the Walkman driver in the registry was partially damaged somehow (I think during a registry clean up I did earlier). Just uninstall it, reinstall it by plugging in your walkman to the PC, and voila. Let me know how it works for y'all!

Sony walkman is not being recognized by XP as a portable device

I remembered that I had another problem with Windows Media 11 that seemed impossible to fix until I found somewhere that uninstalling or rolling back WM11 to the previous version then reinstalling fixed the issue. I decided to give that a try with this problem we're having and sure enough it worked. The Walkman is now recoginized as a Portable Device under Device Manager and in My Computer it is displayed as a Walkman and not a removable disk.

All you have to do is use add/delete software, delete or rollback WM 11 and then either use the Sony disc with WM11 or download a new version. All together it only took a few minutes and I'm back in business. No music or playlists were lost. Try it and let me know if it works for you.

Sony walkman nwz-s18f froze

I had this problem a few days ago and now my sony nwzs18f has different problems, the way i got it to charge back up was by using a usb charger that plugs into a socket rather than into your computer this should hopfully charge it back up and also it should unfreeze the screen.

My Walkman won't charge

What I did when I got this error was to push the reset button on the bottom of the player itself... Mine rebooted and took a charge from the computer. Hope this all works for you.

Starts up to "Walkman" Screen then turns off

(Re)installed the 1.1 firmware update, and clicked the "format data area" box. It works fine however it of course deleted all my mp3s. I still don't know why it broke down but I figure it just doesn't work well when it shuts down suddenly due to "low battery".

NWZ-B103F MP3: connected to USB port on pc( vista) and tried on laptop( xp)

I first found that when I plugged my player into my computer it registered it as a MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) device and in turn never showed up as a storage device on my computer. I fixed this by going into my Control Panel -> System Icon -> Hardware Tab -> Device Manager button.

Clicking on the "System Devices" tab should have "Walkman" or MTP device. Right click on it and go to properties, now before doing anything it should say "Location -- ------ Location 0 (Walkman)" if not try unplugging the walkman and see if the MTP device you're looking at is removed from the list, just to make sure it's the right device we're looking for.

If you've confirmed it's the Walkman, click on the "Driver tab" and click on "Update Driver...". Then click on the "Install from a list or a specific location (Advanced)" option and click "Next". Now select the "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install." and click next. It should now bring up 2 driver choices, one being "MTP Device" and the other "USB Mass Storage Device". Select the USB option and select next, it will then install your walkman as a USB storage device and after that's done. It should be a matter of unplugging and plugging the Walkman back in and it should show up on your storage options in "My Computer"
