Question about JVC GY-HD200U Camcorder

Open Question

Is it too late to drop the letterbox?

My client shot with the "Letterbox" option on while shooting a segment and didn't realize it until he got back and was logging shots before the edit. 2 identical cameras were used to shoot the footage. One with letterbox and one without... They are in the same show right next to one another...

Using the JVC GY-HD200 camera to play back the footage is there a way to turn off the "Letterbox" and play the footage without the "Letterbox" on? This is a national show and he would sure like to make them look alike...

I am editing on a Avid Media Composer and I can put a 16x9 mask over the edited footage that doesn't have the mask but that sure causes alot of rendering time.

Any ideas? Please help!!! Thanks guys Bud, Peoria, Illinois

SOURCE: I have to keep rendering after every little edit in final cut pro

I found a video online that helps with this problem. It might be due to your render settings. Also, some edits do in fact need rendering, some edits do not. Take a look at this video and I hope it solves your problem:

SOURCE: jvc everio editing software

Pinnacle version 11 treats everio files absolutely normally. Just move them to the PC and "import media from device" in the drop down menu. You can edit (sound and vision) and produce excellent DVDs.

Sony Vegas is also good at MOV files.

Incidentally, I have foud the Everio picture MUCH improved if I set the "shutter speed" to "sports"

Using standard on tv remote and normal on cable remote both settings crop the edge of the picture

TVs that use cathode ray tube (CRT) cannot display the correct aspect ratio for movies and modern TV broadcasts unless it is in letterbox form. Unfortunately most of the older CRT TVs do not have a letterbox setting.

There is nothing you can do. The fault is with its main power regulator section circuit inside. Contact any experienced service technician.

I am having trouble getting the screen size back to full size. We used the zoom but that makes the picture to big. My TV is a Auria EQ5588

Hi, The " Size " of a flat panel tv ( when not in zoom mode ) is actually controlled by your programming, if using an hdmi cable from an Hd/Blu-ray player-then whatever format the disc was recorded in is what you'll see ( widescreen/letterbox ) black bars at top & bottom of scrteen ) or full screen. Local over the air digital H.D. brodcast's from networks varie from full screen to letterbox-satellite and cable that are standard definition will almost always letterbox a screen for you. Using T.V.s tuner may alleviate most of the issues. Good luck and I hope this helped. Prodzilla

I purchased a DVD that states: Widescreen Format (Aspect Ratio 1.85.1) I'm unable to get 'widescreen/letterbox'. The movie shows up full screen or a 'stretched' view. All other movies I've...

On the DVD recorder remote: press function menu button: enter setup screen - scroll down to connection - TV aspect - select either 16:9 / 4:3 Letterbox / 4:3 Pan&scan. If you are using an older TV which is not a widescreen, set the aspect to '4:3 Letterbox'.

You should now be able to view your DVD movies from this machine through a 4:3 standard TV in letterbox format. (some DVDs do not allow pan&scan so letterbox or widescreen is recommended). Very rare that a DVD title is not compatible with 4:3 TVs. I assume your deck is set to output 16:9 aspect by default.

I find this is the cheapest and easiest solution and can save lots of dollars in service call-outs. You can always reset the unit back to shipping condition later if you need to, or in the rare case of digital channels disappearing from your tuner memory.

I cant get the whole picture to fit the screen. When I watch games the score is cut off.

This is most likely a setting on your TV, like stretch, or fit, or possibly on your cable box, or dish receiver. look at your dish or cable box settings and turn off any screen adjustments. Example under wide screen setting is strech , zoom, letterbox (choose letterbox).
The TV has these settings as well.

Normal and letterbox

"Normal" looks "streched" because the origin of the video is normal, so it gets streched. If you play a "letterboxed" material (may be a DVD) it comes compressed, (vertically streched) so when you play it in letterbox it streches up to the rigth aspect ratio. Take a look at it in wikipedia.
