There is a class action lawsuit currently being initiated against HP for this issue. The Complaint alleges that HP misrepresented and concealed material facts regarding certain laptops including a design defect, which causes the power jacks of the laptops to fail.

I had a similar problem. something that is really good to do is to purchase recovery disks. they are affordable. they range from 9- 20 dollars. you can just call hp and order it over the phone or online all you have to do is to load the cd and you are good to go. one thing though you will loose your data that was saved on your computer, but it will surely help

The hard drive has issues, or the window files are corrupt. I suggest a computer repair store to retrieve files and test hardware.

When I start up computer all I get is black screen with a blinking cursor in the top left hand corner...how do I fix this so it will load properly

how long have you let it try to boot when you get the _ flashing. also if you have your computer to set up from a usb drive make sure you have disconnected all usb drives and other peripherals just to be certain it's not trying to boot from an external source.

It wont boot, goes to black screen with whit blinking dash

Yes, this sounds like the traditional black screen issue, but it's different! This machine is a Dell Dimension 3000 with XP. System won't boot. After Blue Dell BIOS splash screen with F2 & F12 options, it just goes black. There will ultimately be a white cursor in the upper left hand corner. I can edit BIOS with F2, I can get in to the boot menu with F12, but I can't do anything after that. I can even get in to the Safe Mode menu (F8), but it never boots.

When we turn our dell computer on, the Dell logo comes on, then the monitor goes black with cursor blinking in the upper left hand corner.

Start the computer hand hold down F8. Then you have a menu where you can chose to start windows in safe mode. If you can get in, check your log files to see what the problem is.

Screen is black and only shows cursor blinking in upper left hand corner. Keyboard not responding. Changed the keyboard 3 times.

Start the computer up and repeadetly keep pressing DELETE to access BIOS menu, Once BIOS menu is aquired make sure that BIOS can see your main harddrive, If that checks out then you may need to set your booting device order to boot the harddrive that contains your Operating System. If that still does not work then you may have a bad motherboard.

Are you getting the Acer logo on start up? If so you might have a software issue on the hard drive, or the hard drive itself is defective. I suggest using your recovery disc to re-install windows and drivers providing you have them.

Computer displays black screen with blinking cursor

Its seems its not booting correctly. Just Insert Windows CD and fix the windows. Another solution is to press (I think) F1 or F11 or F12 (depending on the model) when booting the machine. It will take you to recovery mode. Use it to restore the boot section ONLY.

Wont boot up

Could it be the Boot Virus? I had the same issues. My co-worker was able to find the virus, which Norton could not. My PC is now running normal.
