When you look through viewfinder or flip out screen it is gray and hazzy. If you adjust contrast ,you can see image but still hazzy and gray. Shows no color whatso ever.And it records the same way. The picture seem to focus but is hard to see. Thank you for any help.

If it is not a setting problems, and if the black and white is only on
LCD and not on picture, then it is a problem with the LCD. Probably
just the ribbon cable not well inserted into the connector.
Camera must be taken apart to fix this problem. Better to have the job done by a technician at a camera repair shop.

yes, there is a good software that has powerful editing functions, such as capture images, adjust flip video contrast, brightness and saturation and to apply
special video effects including old film, gray and emboss, remove unwanted footages from flip videos, and so on.
If camcorder shows old recorded tapes picture with correct colors in LCD but does not show live view in camera mode to record new movie then its ccd imager chip failure.
And if camcoder shows live view and old recorded tapes in its eye piece view finder but does not show any thing in LCD the its problem of broekn/ cracked flexible wire between lcd board and main board of camcorder.

It's where you find a view of what the light coming through the lens. Today's consumer camcorders place the viewfinder center-rear usually with a rubbery piece around the end as an eyepiece/cup. Many units shut off the image to the eyepiece if the flip-out LCD screen on the side is used.

This sounds like CCD sensor problem ( especially if the picture is "noisy" ). Canon and Sony fixes this particular problem free of charge since the CCD device installed in your camera should last + - 15 years if it is properly manufactured. Contact your agent and find out what their policy is.
This problem may be due to a malfunction of the CCD image sensor in the camera. It is defective in this model and canon will repair it for you at no charge. Here is the link to their service notice.
