Whirlpool Duet GHW9400PWO: Replacement of the rear counter weight

How difficult is it to replace a broken rear counter weight with a new one. I am no expert but I am technically inclined. Does the rear panel have to be removed or is it sufficient to remove the bracket along the top that holds the wires and electronic module to gain access to the attachment bolts of the rear counter weight. Are there any special tools needed?

Any help is very much appreciated.

Thank you very much,

This is a simple repair. All that should be required is to remove the back panel to access the counterweight. I've performed this repair on several occasions. Loosen the bolts that sandwich the weight between the mounting plates and the whole weight should slide out of its mounted position on the back of the tub. Insert the new weight by sliding it in place and then re-installing the mounting plates and bolts. Tighten until snug. Do NOT overtighten as you may crack the weight. I hope this helps you.

How do I access the panel below the door on a Whirlpool Duet?

In some models, the lower door panel mounts with a friction fit and is pried off to remove.

Zanussi rear counter weight screw mountings broken

If this is a GE top load washer, I have see it a few time's. You can go to your local hardware store and get 2 new 4 inch bolts and nut set. and reattach the counter weight. The old bolts were just screwed to the frame. With today's appliance's they use 1/32 to 1.16 sheet metal... it don't take much to strip that out.

Next time post brand and model number...make's it easier.

Cement counterweight broken

difficult to do much there. you could try gluing something to the bowl, but it is very unlikely to hold for many cycles. you can buy new outer bowl / frames from the manufacturer.

My Whirlpool washing machine Model number ghw9400pwo is shaking vilently and has started to wear on the plastic around the front of the drum causing plastic pieces to fall off of it. It was bought in 2005...

with nothing it it put one of the flippers at the 12 o'clock area and push up and down. if it clunks and it prob. will the rear bearing is going bad, the more it moves the more bad it is. if it is the case its time for a new washer. the repair of the unit will be more then its worth.

F06 code on my Duet model

first before replacing any parts, check the wire harness from the motor tachometer on the end of the motor and the e.c.u. electronic control unit, they get small amounts of corrosion and can't pass r.p.m. signals to the control board, you may need to remove and re insert themk to clean the contacts, then if this doesn't help, then replace the hall sensor/tachometer on the motor, and finally the e.c.u. in the very end

I added too much weight to a load of clothes. Door popped open and now it won't stay shut.

You may have broken the door latch mechanism, or the door hook. The following link explains how to replace the door latch on a Whirlpool Duet:

Replacements parts (if required) can be purchased from any of the following websites:

If the model number is correct, the part number for a replacement door latch is 8182634. If the door hook is defective, the part number is 8181651. Prices vary between sites, so shop and compare. the first three sites listed also have helpful exploded view parts illustrations to assist you with locating and properly identifying the parts you may need.

If you have any questions about this repair, please let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.
