Ok. Make sure that your camera lens is straight and not slanted. If it is then pull it out with pliers. Once you've done that, then take out your battery. The lens should still be out, but when you turn it on, the whole thing will restart and it will ask you the date and stuff. That's what happened to mine. It is now perfectly fine. I hope I helped.

Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may correct your problem. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them:

It's broken. It will have to be serviced, and likely need parts replacement. It's up to you, but given the cost of repairs, just in labor, I'd toss it in the recycle pile and get a new one.

Lenz stuck out

If the lens mechanism has been damaged or is sticking from foreign material around the lens housing it will shut down when you try to power on. Once in a while you can try to assist the lens by placing gentle pressure against it when you power on and the lens may retract. This will most likely not fix the problem but it may give you a better idea if the mechanism is damaged or not.
