Re44sz21rd My LG re44sz21rd is now 4 years old, I replaced the bulb last year, until now it has run fine. It now runs for 30-60 mins then it switches to stand by. If you leave it for a while you can start it up again but it will do the same thing again

HI,

All I can suggest is to replace the bulb. I experienced a similar problem after about 2 years viewing when the recommend lamp life was approx 8000 hours (I got to approx 3000 hours). There is a service menu you can access where you can reset the lamp hours time. I have read that if this is reached you must replace your lamp, but you can extended this by reseting the hours.

I have since learnt that a lamp bulb can go at anytime, so it is worth having a spare. Also I have noticed that switching the TV off at the switch (not leaving it in standby helps).

Try this to access the service menu. Holding down the menu button on the remote and the one on the TV for a few seconds. I think the TV needs to be off.

From memory, I think it is option 4 and option 5, then reset the lamp hours to zero

How do i replace the bulb in an LG rear projection tv RE44SZ21RD

Note: Wear cotton gloves when handling the lamps as it contains mercury.
  1. Remove the access cover behind the On/Off switch at the bottom of the rear cover by removing the 2 screws using a Philip screwdriver.
  2. Behind the cover is a metal box with a handle that protects the rear of the lamp. Remove the securing screws and pull the box with the handle.
  3. Remove the cable screws and pull out the plug.
  4. Remove the lamp clamp screws and lift the lamp
  5. Put the new lamp in place of the old lamp in reverse sequence of the above.
  6. Dispose the old lamp properly.
  7. Reset the lamp timer.
  • Make sure the TV is on.
  • Press and hold Menu button on the TV set.
  • Press and hold Menu button on the remote control at the same time
  • Hold the buttons until the service Menu pops up.
  • Release the Menu button on the remote then on the TV set.
  • Press and hold Enter /Ok on the TV set then press and hold Mute button on the remote control.
  • Hold the buttons until the Lamp Life Hours screen pops up.
  • Release Mute button on remote then release Enter/Ok on the TV set.
  • Press Select twice to confirm the reset of the counter.

The bulb you are buying is not the origianl one. The life of you bulb is too short, probably it was use before. Buy a original bulb and new.

Bottom right side of screen (about 4 inches high) has blue tint

I had the same problem with my 4 yr old Sony KDF60WF655 rear projection set, and I was fortunate to buy a 4 year extended warranty - because it was the "Optic Block", ($1300. -not incl labor), that was replaced to fix the problem. That part contains all new LCDs, & multiple Lens & some electronics. I had already got a new bulb (under warranty) a few weeks earlier, that I had not yet installed so the service guy did replace that as well. (This happened 3 weeks before my warranty ended).

He told me that he replaces hundreds of Sony Optic Blocks every year and that many Sony Rear Projection sets have automatic FACTORY extended warranties (up to 10 years), because of some known problems with the blue LCD panels. You might want to contact a SONY office & see if your set is covered.

ALSO - The tech checked my Service Codes & showed me the TV had been running for 10051 hours in about 4 years - on the Original bulb! He was quite surprised because he said the bulbs usually last about 5000 - 7000 hours. He also said it's good to replace them BEFORE they go bad, because they can sometimes burn out the amplifier that powers the bulb, (which is a seperate piece that attaches to the outside of the Optic Block). My TV is like new now.

LCD Sony TV - Skwiggly line

Hey there I think the problem is coming from your LCD chips not your bulb, the bulb has nothing to do with the color or skwiggly lines it just shoots out white light, your LCD chips are burnt and the problem will not stop by changing your light bulb you need to replace the OPTICAL BLOCK the skwiggly line will just get worst with time
hope this helps

Lg with a mind of its own

My REsz21rd is doing the same thing, switching off after a short time and then struggling to re-start. The LG repairers say it's the projection engine and have quoted £2000 for a new one. What a joke!

No picture.

The lamp is turned on by a high voltage ballast, very similar to the ones in your fluorsecent light fixtures. Your ballast is starting to fail. You should have your TV serviced by a JVC authorized service center because they have the training to deal with this issue. Waiting until it fails could very likely cause more servere damage especially if it fails shorted then the power supply will need to be replaced as well.

Sony Wega kdf-55wf655 rear projection set keeps turning on and off

If picture quality is poor, be sure you aligned the bulb in the correct manner and be sure the cover for the bulb is not loose. Also, you might want to re check you picture setting as it might have gotten reset when you pulled the plug (I hope you pulled the plug when replacing the bulb).
Heres another solution (maybe temporary) to the problem of no picture and no sound for 30 seconds. I had my tv's power saving setting on "standard" before. After I switched it to "reduced", the problem was fixed. It has been almost two weeks without the problem. I think its a good fix until the new bulb comes in the mail.
