Same problem. Printer will not respond under any circumstances. Sometimes the message "cover open" and other times nothing. I have to unplug it to get it turned off

Mine says cover open when it's closed and I can't do anything with it. Not sure what people are talking about a white clip? What white clip? everything looks perfectly good. Shall I just take it to the tip and buy another one?

Cover Open message. None of the buttons do anything.

I have a feeling this was known by Lexmark. That's why it came free with my rebate....the rep at the store told us the printer took up a lot of ink. which was a lie. its accually one of the cheapest cartridges. but i bet he knew about the problems with it...they didn't even offer it to us originally...i learned it was free with our computer on some blog...and brought it up and they gave it to us...

Hi Just wonder if you could help me i have a lexmark x3480 it has suddenly decided to display cover open and is not switching off at the control panel. The cover is not open and sits flush what is it...

It could either be due to a stuck cover sensor or the cartridges in your printer. Please follow the steps below to fix the problem:

1. Make sure the printer is on.

2. Open the printer cover. The print cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position, unless the All-in-One is busy.

Note: If the carrier does not automatically move to the center, turn off the printer/unplug the printer from the power source and then slide the carrier to the center.

3. Remove both cartridges from the carrier.

4. Close the printer cover.

5. Rebrick (pull out the power supply, black box where the power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer, and put it back after 30 seconds).

6. When the printer turns on, reinsert one cartridge first.

7. Close the printer cover and check for any errors.

8. If no error appears, reinsert the other cartridge. Close the printer cover.

9. Replace whichever cartridge is causing the error to appear with a new cartridge.

I changed my ink cartridge, and now it has cover open displayed but the cover is closed

when you open the lid there is a small white piece of plastic witch should be attached to a very small micro switch .this keeps coming off for some reason .you have to find it and reattach it to the switch that is just right of the middle of your printer .hope this helps

Message says lid is open when it is closed

Hi,

Please try out the blow mentioned 2 options. I am sure the problem will be sorted out:

  1. When you lift the cover up along the back end of the gray plastic bottom cover, you'll see a square opening close to the right side hinge.
There should be a little white plastic piece sticking out of there. If not, it fell into the guts of the printer. You have to remove the gray plastic and find the white lever and replace it onto a micro-switch along the back where the square opening is/was.
You'll see a PCB (printed circuit board) there and the micro-switch will be located on that...
Hope this helps

2. Remove the screws on the front of the cover when it is open. Once removed At the back of the unit 2/3 rd from the left there is a small switch if this is pushed in ( and held by whatever means sellotape etc it will opperate normally (to change cartridge you may have to re do)

X3480 printer.message is saying;cover is open

the meaning of cover is open means --------the cover means.the thing which you lift to remove or install the cartridges.just keep that cover closed.if that cover is closed still its showing the same error.then the sensor which detects the cover closed is got moved from its orignal position.to reset the sensor just tap all the sides of the printer for couple of minutes.mostly the top side and front side of the printer.and then check out the error must go away.if still the same error then its quite possible that sensor is broked as it very very delicate .so it needs a technician to replace the broken sensor.the cost to replace the sensor must not exceed then $5.

Cover open error

There is a latch that preses a small switch when you close the cover (look for this) to indicate that it it close if it is broken you can tweek it using a toothpick or anything that may press the switch temporarily this may alow it to work as long as the switch stays down.

X3480 cover open message

Ajkill is right, although his description isn`t very exact. Take off the complete scanner part: (back hinges first, then the blue arresting lever at the front), disconnect the flat band cable and the power supply for the scanner part and take off the complete scanner part. You´ll see a triangular part that goes in a slot of the dark grey cover which covers the rest. It should press againt a white lever which itself presses a little black switch sitting on the printed circuit board. If this white lever has fallen off the switch is always in "Cover open" position. To get it and reposition it (if it isn`t broken) you have to take off the dark grey cover which covers all the rest: take off the front screws and carefully lever out the sides with a small screw driver. Good luck with the repositioning, it is very fiddely and to see how and where it has to go you best use a magnifying glass!  But I could manage it and my printer is working now again. And good luck with fitting it all together again without breaking anything!

A White Clip On The Rear Has Fallen Off...
It Pushes A Micro Switch On The PCB (Printed Circuit Board)...
Poke Your Finger In The Middle Hole At The Rear Of The Grey Tray While You Have The Lid Open...
Feel The Switch And Press It... (Tiny Button)
You Will See I Am Right...
Try To Locate The Piece That Has Fallen Off...
Glue It Back On Or Order Spare Part...
Or Bin The Printer (Lexmark Is Useless) (Buy Epson)
