check the exact model of your router with the version number.. it can be found underneath the device itself.. you could also check the firmware on the router's page by accessing it, then go to the status tab.. on that kind of routers, if the firmware ranges from 1.50.0-1.51.2 you need to upgrade that because it gives you a problem.. the latest version is 1.52.2.. those are routers of version 5 and 6.. you can download the firmware at www.linksys.com/downloads.. select NA and usa first then type your model number and select your version number.

You will ahve to log on to the web interface of the modem to find out what the firmware you have is.. See if there is an option to upgrade automatically. Else, look on the Verizon website. That might help

F5D8635 N+ Wireless Modem Router
Don't need to open any ports to do an outward VPN. Just need to update the firmware. Had same issue on a Vista laptop that couldn't get through to my works Cisc VPN although an older XP laptop could albeit with difficulty. Would not register with the Vista. Changed the firmware from the one it came with #17 to current from
Works fine now gets straight through.
