Question about Pioneer PRO-630HD 58" Rear Projection Television

Open Question

Pioneer Elite PRO-630HD

I'm not sure what's wrong with it. When I turn on the TV, the screen is Green with Horizontal Green Lines that are wavy and unstable. It only stays on for about 30 seconds then it shuts itsself down. Do I need to replace the green tube or is it something simple.... THe guy who gave it to me said that this has happend before and it only costed lile $150 to fix.... Something about a V-chip? I was hoping it was something simple enough that I can fix it instead of hiring someone to do it.

SOURCE: Pioneer sd-643hd5 rear projection 64" tv has green geometry grid problems

Wow, that first link is perfection! I'm worried though. The photo on that link shows the base grid green pattern looking VERY geometrically even with only the red and blue lines off. On my set, the green base grid geometry is off/wavy. Are the IC's the correct fix?

The intermittencies you mention are common on this
series. The PS - power supply - board needs a
virtually complete resolder op, as the solder used in
that run of units was weak and thin. It will not get
better on its own, any more than needed dental work
will.

Send it to me and I will resolder it and send it back.
I have done so on a number of PS boards in this series,
and am running at 100% success on saving the
510/610/710 series of Pioneer Elites when all they need
is the resoldering op. There is a procedure to follow,
so contact me directly.

If the problem is same with different input devices and you have ensured there are no loose contacts in power outlet, RC jack, cable and sockets, the TV needs servicing.

Easy way is to look at back, but even if it does I doubt it will work with any current laptop etc as it is rather old equipment..

Green Background with red wavy lines

Projection TV sets have two very common problems listed below.

Problem #1) Convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Wavy lines

Are the wavy lines horizontal or vertical? If they are horizontal and up near the top of the screen it could be 60HZ interference from a power cord running over the cable from the DVD player to the TV. There could also an internal breakdown of the shielding by the power supply of the DVD player. If the lines are vertical it is likely the cable or maybe the input jack on the TV. Could be a number of things.

Horizantal lines

Had same problem with my PRO1000 - faint horizontal bands moving from bottom up (sometimes sationary). Turned out to be nothing more than some signal interference from a PC I had plugged into the VGA moniter input on the TV. As soon as I disconnected the PC, the bands disappeared. Hope that helps...
