Bissel 7920 Diverter Valve Install

How does one install the diverter valve (piston) which I accidently removed while removing the cover? The diverter valve is the one used to control the soap disenser. I had followed your directions in the procedure to avoid removing the piston, but unfortunately I failed to heed this advice during one of the subsequent removals.

Thanks,

Gerry

The description was very easy to follow. Thanks

The piston can fit in either two ways. It should go in the area between two plastic flanges on the side of the opening for the soap dispenser. I could not have solved this without redevil6' s help. Being spatially inept it took me a while to discover this.

After spending innumeralbe hours on this, I concluded that the Bissel is well designed and many problems can be avoided by running with water in both the soap dispenser and the main water supply after each use to remove the soap.

With the top cover off, turn it over, put the knob in the water only setting, the piston will fit in the slot (only one way), turn the knob some so it will stay on. Put the cover back on, but just before you push it down, turn the knob to the water only setting again, then push the top cover all of the way down. Turn the knob, you can feel if it is in the chamber or not. If not, it won't turn or be hard to turn.

I have a 7950 Bissell. I can't get it to **** up from either the tools or floor area. I tried adjusting the knob on side but still no luck. Any suggesions?

First check to see if there is suction at the motor duct. If not contact you local BISSELL Authorized Service Center at http://www.bissell.com/customer-support/.

If there is suction,
a) Check if the small rounded window tabs on the Floor Nozzle are locked in
their mating slots and not inadvertently lifting the tank up out of place?
b) Check to ensure oval seal is in place at the top of floor nozzle window.
c) Check the diverter knob for proper setting and the diverter door opens and
closes properly. If no, and it does not appear to be broken, remove the floor nozzle window, open diverter door manually, keeping the flat
side of the door against the unit. Set the diverter knob on the tools setting.
Manually close diverter door until there is resistance, hold it in place while
turning the diverter knob towards the floor setting to lock it back in place.
Reinstall the floor nozzle window. (If diverter door will not lock back in place,
go to a BISSELL Authorized Service Center).
d) Check for the black foam gasket under the diverter door. Replace if
necessary.
e) Check floor nozzle window to ensure it is screwed down properly. If there is
a ¼" gap between the window, where it wraps around to the side of the
unit, and the base on the slanted section, reinstall window.
This gap can be eliminated by installing the tabs at the top of the window,
hold it in place, then push up from the bottom of the window to bow the
window, push it against the unit and then evenly slide it down into place.
f) Check half moon window to ensure it is screwed down properly on
CleanView models. The floor nozzle window should be lower to the floor
then the half moon window.
g) Make sure tank is not full on the outside of the bladder.
h) Check the tank lint screen for debris. Remove it to check.
i) Check tank lid and tank for damage.
j) Check float and baffle to ensure they are properly installed properly. The
baffle should be even with the top of the tank

Diverter knob & flap & gasket broke

You will have to pull the top cover off, it fits underneath unto the knob. When you see the bottom, you should be able to tell. The arm of the diverter goes thru the hole and then hooks onto the bottom of the knob.

Remove the cap for the flow indicator, then there 6 screws to remove to take off the top, before removing the top, turn the smart mix valve to about the half way point so the piston won't fall off. When you are ready to re-install the top cover, just before pushing it all of the way down, turn the smart mix valve to the water only setting, then push it into place, re-install the screws and the flow indicator parts.

No suction

When you turned the diverter knob, did the gray diverter valve open up? If not, this would be why no suction, it has to be open for the hose and closed to suction from the floor. Alot of times, the valve breaks and won't work. Is the black ovule shaped gasket on te top of the window and the edge of the tank, if gone, then there will be no suction. Is the filter on the tank lid clean?

Removing the top of the 7901-1 Bissell Proheat

Unscrew the cap for the flow indicator, remove the 6 screws, the top will come off. When you put the top back on, make sure the piston is hooked on the smart mix knob(underneath the top cover) set the smart mix valve in the wtaer only setting, then put the top back on. Turn the smart mix valve to make sure it is turning like it should, then re-install the 6 screws and the flow indicator parts. (don't over tighten the screws)
