Hi, my Canon MP160 has issues with the auto paper feeder, or maybe the roller; I'm not sure. When it feeds paper, like 4 or 5 sheets go in at a time. I have followed the instructions to clean the plates, and I have gone through the sequence to clean the roller about 4 or 5 times. The same problem still exists. Is there something else I can try?

Clean the separating pad (rectangular pad of rubber or cork on the bottom of the paper tray near the pickup roller) or it could be worn out (needs to be replaced) when cleaning rubber rollers and pads you need a rubber cleaner (do not use alcohol) it will dry out the rubber... you can also use RUBBER RENEU from M.G. Chemicals cat. no. 408A-250ML... a 250ml bottle is over kill but I use it to renue my car wipers also ha ha!...

Cheers!

Canon ip1800 is experiencing paper jam.whener tries to print, cannot feed the paper properly

Sometimes a printer just needs some cleaning.

Remove the jammed paper following the procedure below. (1) Slowly pull the paper out, either from the Auto Sheet Feeder or from the Paper Output Slot, whichever is easier. If the paper tears and a piece remains inside the printer, turn the printer off, open the Front Cover, and remove it. Be careful not to touch the components inside the printer. After removing all paper, close the Front Cover and turn it back on.If you cannot pull the paper out, turn the printer off and turn it back on. The paper will be ejected automatically. (2) Reload the paper in the printer, and press the RESUME/CANCEL button on the printer. If you turned off the printer in step 1, all print jobs in queue are canceled. Reprint if necessary.
Make sure to clean the paper feed rollers if paper is not fed properly. Cleaning the Paper Feed Roller of the Auto Sheet Feeder consumes it, so perform this only when necessary. 1. Make sure that the printer is turned on, and then remove any paper from the Auto Sheet Feeder. 2. Open the Printer Properties dialog box. 3. Click the Maintenance tab and then Roller Cleaning. 4. Confirm the message, and then click OK.The Paper Feed Rollers will rotate as they clean. 5. When the message appears, load three or more sheets of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder.Set the Paper Thickness Lever to the left. 6. Confirm the displayed message and click OK.The paper that is loaded in the printer will feed through the printer and be ejected. 7. When the confirmation message is displayed, click OK. If this procedure does not solve the problem, clean the surface of the roller with applying a slightly moisten cotton swab with water to wipe off dust or stain.
If the problem still persists, contact a Canon service representative.

Why doesn't paper feed after "print" instruction? Printer merely makes a mechanical noise and states "paper out" condition.

Hello.

There are lots of reasons why this would happen:

Foreign object (could be very tiny)

Any power lights flashing ?

Paper feed rollers may need cleaning - try (from Canon Support):

1. Ensure that the printer is turned on. If any paper is loaded in the printer, remove it.

2. Select which roller to clean, the auto sheet feeder's or cassette's, by pressing the <Paper Feed> switch on the printer.

3. Hold down the <Resume/Cancel> button; when the Power lamp flashes green three times, release the button. The paper feed roller will rotate as it cleans itself.

4.. Repeat step 3 twice.

5. Load three or more of A4 or letter sized plain paper in the auto sheet feeder or cassette, as selected in step 2.

6. Repeat step 3. The paper that is loaded in the printer will be fed through the printer and ejected.

7. If printing problems persist, repeat step 6 up to three times.

Could be a hardware error and the printer would need servicing - still under warranty ?? If so, return to Canon for repair or replacement.

Hope this helps.

My canon Pixma MP160 feeds too many sheets at one time. I have cleaned the rollers. It was printing beautifully not five minutes ago.

I recommend fanning your paper. Take the stack of paper from your input tray or feeder. Fan it like you would a deck of playing cards. This may help keep the leading edges of improperly cut paper from meshing to each other, resulting in feeding more than one sheet.

E2 – No paper, Paper does not feed error.
How to correct, fix: If paper is not installed, load it and then press the <Black> or <Color> button. When paper is installed, check each of the following items and try printing again.
1. Confirm only recommended paper is installed.
2. Confirm paper is installed properly.
3. Confirm the maximum number of sheets in the auto sheet feeder is within the paper limit mark.
4. Clean the paper feed roller to resolve the error.

The problem may be alleviated by performing paper feed roller cleaning.

3. Click the Maintenance tab and click Roller Cleaning. 4. Remove all sheets of paper from the auto sheet feeder, and click OK. 5. Confirm the message to be displayed, and click OK.
Do not try other operations until printer's operation completes.
6. When the printer's operation is completed, follow the confirmation message to load three new sheets of A4 or letter-sized plain paper in the auto sheet feeder
7. Click OK.
8. Confirm the message to be displayed, and click OK.
Do not try other operations until all the three sheets are ejected.
Memo: The printer prints nothing on those sheets.
9. When all the three sheets of the paper are ejected, paper feed roller cleaning is completed.

I have just purchased ink cartridge 830 black for canon ip 1800 but the lights are blinking orange please tell me why this is happening

I received this response from canon.com. Hope it helps you.

If the paper feed rollers become dirty, they may not be able to properly
feed paper due to the feed roller's slippage. If paper does not feed
correctly, perform the following to clean the paper feed rollers:

1. Open the Printer properties.

For Windows Vista

a. Click / Select 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen,
'Control Panel', 'Hardware and Sound', and then click on 'Printers'.

Note: If you are in 'Classic' view, Click 'Printers' directly from the
'Control Panel'.

b. Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and
then select 'Preferences' from the menu that appears.

For Windows XP Home Edition

a. Click / Select 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen,
'Control Panel,' 'Printers and Other Hardware,' and 'Printers and
Faxes.'

b. Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and
then select 'Preferences' from the menu that appears.

For Windows XP Professional Edition

a. Click 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, and
'Printers and Faxes.'

b. Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and
then select 'Preferences' from the menu that appears.

For Windows 2000

a. Click / Select 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen,
and 'Settings,' then 'Printers.'

b. Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and
then select 'Properties' from the menu that appears.

2. Click the 'Maintenance' tab and click 'Roller Cleaning'.

3. Remove all sheets of paper from the auto sheet feeder.

4. Confirm the following message, and click 'OK'.

Note: Clicking 'OK' will activate the paper feed rollers 30 times. This
activation will take about 90 seconds. Do not perform other operations
until this operation has finished.

5. Confirm the following message, and click 'OK'.

6. After the continuous paper feeding operations in step 5 have
finished, load three sheets of plain paper and click 'OK'.

7. Confirm the following message, and click 'OK'.

Note: The following message is displayed when the paper is fed and ejected.

8. Click 'OK'.

Roller Cleaning is completed.

If the issue continues to persist, try fanning the paper before
reseating in the automatic sheet feeder.

Follow these steps to fan the paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder(ASF):

1. Remove all documents from the ASF.

2. Check for any obstructions.

3. Fan out the sheets of paper so that they do not stick together.

4. Align the edges of the paper.

5. Insert the document stack, face up, into the ASF until you hear a
beep.

6. Adjust the document guides to the width of the document.

If fanning the paper does not help resolve the issue then the iP1800
printer will require service.
