Same here - volume with an earbud is fine, but the built-in speaker volume is pitifully low.

Have done more research on this, and made some tests. I found the Ext Speaker jack sometimes did not make good contact when the earphone plug was removed, and cleaned/lubed the jack ... the entire unit must be disassembled for this, as the jack is mounted on the third circuit board which is soldered to the antenna jack and a ground shield in several places.

Audio output to an external speaker, whether connected to the earphone jack or directly to the main speaker contacts, is the same. An unpowered external speaker (4-inch audio speaker was used) has quite satisfactory volume. The internal speaker audio works, but seems distorted - I'll try to find a replacement.

I replaced the speaker with a new one from iCom - only $11 with a few dollars for shipping. Distortion is gone now - hard to tell whether the volume improved or not.

Check the mode button and make sure you are in the right mode, sounds like you have it in the wrong mode.

Static noise will not go off unless I hit talk button but when I let go it comes back on

The Squelch control is turned too far down. The control should be labeled "Squelch" or "SQL" Turn this control clockwise until the white noise stops. You may want to turn it very slightly further, but not too much.

This control sets the sensitivity of the radio, if too far counter clockwise it will receive noise. If too far the other way it will only receiver very strong signals.

Volume/Squelch control: As desired
ETone: Sets the sound of the echo as desired

Band Switch: for CB, turn all way to left (a/e)
Mode Switch: Selects how you modulate the radio. Normally, you will operate on AM, USB or LSB.
Fine/Coarse control: Changes the frequency you operate on. Normally, set so the frequency counter reading ends in 5. (center slot of the channel).
RB: Roger beep. Turn on or off as desired.
NB/ANL: Noise limiters. Leave on.
Frequency Counter: Turns counter lights on and off.
+10 KHZ: Allows you to get the channels missed by the Channel knob. Normally, leave off.
Power: Selects either high or low transmitter power setting.
Band: Selects band of operation. Low (A-D) or High (E-F)

Got a "Dwell" effect when

It sounds like you have cable in the wrong ports. Make sure your cabling goes in to out on all ports. Also make sure no cable are bent or heavy equipment on top of it. If your getting sound but sounds like muted sound its either cable in the wrong place bad cable or amp setting is to low.

Need to know low and high air screw adjustments

Turn both of them in all the way then back them out one turn. This should let you start it. Then turn the high air screw clockwise until it begins to stall, then turn it counter-clockwise until it begins to stall. Then turn it somewhere in between the two where it sounds smooth. Same with the low.
