1. Do you have a clear view of the sky? Try a mall parking lot, or a sports field.

2. If it's new from the box, or has a factory reset done, or was powered up last in a different country, make sure the antenna is turned on, and that it's not in demonstration or simulation mode. Wait 12 minutes at least - so it can download the latest almanac from the first satellite it finds.

3. If you have a screen for signal strength, watch that, and reposition until you see at least 4 satellites with a signal level greater than 35 or 40 at the same time. Expect a fix roughly a minute later.

Gps singal lost

Often, when your GPS is in a "covered" area ... e.g. inside a building, in a tunnel, under a bridge, amongst / under tall buildings, etc... when there is no open space (directly) between your GPS and the satellites, your GPS will loose its satellite signals. If you're in such locations, try to find some "open space" and wait a bit for the signals to be picked up again.
Another common reason why the GPS doesn't get signals, or doesn't get the signals quickly, is because the "latest" satellite positions (locations) have not been updated in your GPS. If/when you connect your GPS to your computer (e.g. using HOME ) and download the GPS satellite (QuickFix) location information, your GPS will have the most recent locations of the satellites in your vicinity/region. With this information, your GPS can pick up the signals more quickly ... instead of having to search/scan around to find the signals ... which can take a bit more time. While your GPS is searching for the satellite signals, it shows the "signal lost" or "no GPS signal" message.

Will not find city or locations

Hello.

Solution to the problem.

With the right piece of hardware and software, it ispossible to triangulate your location anywhere on earth using satellitenavigation. These gamin devices cansuccessfully guide you from one place to another, or they can simply use theconnection with the satellite to tell you your exact current location. Thelatter function requires you to know how to locate the GPS device using theoptions onscreen.
1 Purchase a GlobalPositioning System (satellite navigation) product. There are manymanufacturers, including TomTom, NavMan and Garmin.2 Turn on the GPS and leave itfor a minute or so as it establishes a connection between the device and thesatellite.
3 Navigate to the"Current Location" option in the "Tools" or"Settings" menu (the exact pathway to this option depends on whichGPS device you have). The satellite signal will now successfully locate yourGPS device.4 Type a ZIP code or placename once you have located your GPS device. The gamin can now successfully guide you to your finaldestinationThanks.

Slow

Your GPS unit finds satellites based on your current location. if you are not in a wide open area then your GPS would need sometime to locate the satellites. You might want to upgrade your GPS for faster locating.

How do I change the start location?

The "current location" is based on the stellite tracking of your GPS. Turn it on OUTSIDE for 10-15 minutes and allow it to get a lock on the GPS satellites and it will get your actual location. There is no way for you to "force" a current location on the GPS.

When i turn my navman icn310,its just says waitin for gps,wot does this mean

It means it's searching for GPS birds. The initial process may take up to 15 minutes for the unit to locate enough birds to locate itself. after it's located the birds and itself, subsequent power on sequences should be shorter in locating the birds.
