Had the same problem. What I end up doing was downloading THE PRINT SHOP 21. This allows me to upload pics from my cell and adjust the pics it cell with no issues.

Depending on the phone and computer set up, there are several ways.
1) Bluetooth them to your computer. If you don't have Bluetooth on the computer, a USB dongle at Wal-Mart, Sam's Club, etc. will run you about $20.00. 
2) Send them as a picture message to your email, and download them to the computer.
3) Find a USB cable that matches your phone and find a software program (BitPim is a free choice, for example) that will allow you to manage your phone's media.

After downloading and installing the above software follow these steps to transfer the msgs to PC.
Open Mobile Phone Tools
Press F3 (for transferring messages from outbox) or Press F4 (for transferring from inbox)
Select messages you want to transfer
Select EXPORT
Choose format/destination. I would recommend txt format as it is real quick.

You will have to have the internet on your phone and e-mail to yourself to your personal computer..
(or)
you have to install nokia phone browser for nokia phones and connect usb cable to your computer from your cell.
