That error occurs when the 3 Quickbooks files don't have the same date. I'm not sure how they get out of synch, but if you check the dates of the files on your Maxtor backup, you'll find they are different.
The easy solution is to delete the files from your Maxtor backup, and then immediately do another backup. Maxtor will copy the current files over and you'll be all set.

click start control panel administrative tools computer management then select event viewer this may vary depending on what operating system you have extend the events there you will see errors in red you will no what exactly what the error was and at what time it occured you might be able work your way through the problem hope it helps
could be several issues to cause this fault, make sure your usb port is usb 2.0, replace the usb cable, take the unit apart and look for loose conections, try the drive in another caddy, or try another drive in the maxtor caddy. You will probably be able to remove the drive from the caddy and connect it into your computer if you have a tower and the correct connections.
yes someone can get the information off the drive it will cost but yes it all depends how much you value the information thats on the drive that you would want to do this it could just be the controler card on the drive or the onetouch's controler went bad if you know someone who can open the unit up for you (maxtor is no longer anyway) have then open the case and plug it into your computer and see if it will work as a internal drive
You can try installing the drivers for the hard disk. Usually XP and vista operating systems detect the drives and install the drivers by themselves. But sometimes there are compatibility issues, which then require manual installation of drivers. I wonder what the operating system on your computer is. Please get back to me if you need further assistance.
Hope this helps :)

It's been suggested that the software Maxtor bundles with the drive is unreliable at best. you could uninstall the software from your computer then reinstall the latest version to see if that resolves your issue. Otherwise you will be forced to use ntbackup or a 3rd party backup solution.
