It depends on the base of the power function.

**For exponential function** use [SHIFT][LN] (e^x) followed by the exponent value. If exponent is negative use the change sign +/- key before exponent.

For a**general power**, type in the base (number), then press the [Y^x] key followed by the exponent.

For a**power of 10,** use the [Exp] key. Careful here. For example to enter 1.6x10^(-19), type in 1.6, press the [Exp] key, then the change sign key +/- and the exponent. Press [=]

What are you trying to do?

Could it be that you entered a + sign followed by a - (minus) sign instead of a change sign (-). +-10

Look at the top left corner of the keypad. If you have a = sign marked on the f ace of the calculator (near a CALc or Solve key) you can enter the = by pressing [ALPHA] then the key next to which there is an = sign.

If you do not have that second = sign, you cannot enter it.

The FX-115ES and the FX-991ES do have that sign to allow the user to enter equations. In your calculator you only have three calculational modes: the general COMP mode, the STAT mode and the Table Mode. No equation mode. Sorry.

The = sign will not always show on the calculator it will depend on what type of problem you are solving.

For numeric problems an = sign will come after the problem is input and the answer will display.

For algebraic or function problems you can input an = sign in the middle of the problem. An example

I have a few questions and then I should be able to help you. In the equation you want to solve there is a letter g. Is this supposed to be there? Does this represent units such as grams? If this is the only units in this equation the answer will be mass not volume. Lets ignore the units and just punch in the numbers. Assuming the equation you want to solve is 3.70/2.50 x 10^-6. The buttons you need to push are 3.7/2.5 EE 6 [+/-] =. The EE button is the exponent button and the [+/-] button is the change sign button, located just below the 3. The change sign button changes the sign of the proceeding character, in this case it changes the 6 into a -6. This calculator will calculate the exponents before it does the multiplication or division so you don't need to use any parentheses for this equation. I hope this helps you out.

I am not lecturing you but I would rather you understand how to do the manipulations involved in isolating a variable.

You want to isolate y, Ok

Start stripping it of all that is not y.

3y + 4x =6. (Addition is commutative, I can change the order of addition)

The term with y is** added **to 4x. If I want the term in y alone on one side I perform the** inverse operation of addition**, a **substraction**. I subtract 4x from both sides.

3y+4x-4x=6-4x. But 4x-4x=0, and we are left with

**3y= - 4x+6**

This operation is sometimes summarized as make one term change side while changing its sign

It would do no harm to put the right side of the foregoing equation in parentheses. I do that to avoid errors)

3y= (-4x+6).

Now y is**multiplied** by the number 3. To isolate y I have to perform the **inverse operation** of the multiplication, namely the division by 3

3y/3 =(-4x+6)/3. The left hand side is just y

**y= (-4x+6)/3.**

While result is correct, I can also open the parentheses

y= -4x/3 +6/3

**y= -(4/3)*x +2.**
