Question about JVC GR-DX97 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

No sound when playing back video footage

When playing back video footage there is no sound. I have taken the camcorder to the place where I purchased for troubleshooting and they had no clue...all the settings where correct. The type of camcorder is a JVC digital video camera GR-D37OU. If I could get some help with this I would appreciate it. I am missing out on recording my 2 year old son. He was speech delayed and now he is talking and I cannot hear what I record and I am very frustrated. He was the whole reason I purchased this video camera. Thanks

At this time, I do think JVC should help fix this problem without having to purchase any plan. Maybe I would be interested in purchasing for future problems, however, I need customer service from the makers of this camcorder in order to feel comfortable about investing anymore money into this camcorder.

    Sincerely

If there is an external microphone jack on the camera, it would help if you tried recording with an external microphone. Also, the mini DV's will mute the sound if the tape guides are slightly out of adjustment. You can tell if they have moved by trying a known good sound tape in the machine. If that plays with no sound also, the tape guides have moved out of alignment.

On my cannon digital video camcorder ( model MV730i) i am trying to play back some footage i have taken but on the view finder (and also on my computer when i transfer footage over) the picture is coming...

Possibly dirty head and/or dirty tape.Maybe even wear-out tape,too.
But the worst scenario would be faulty or damaged head, which would be not worth repair it.

No sound on any tapes

Katie, we need a little more information. Are you saying that when you shoot footage and play it back on the camcorder you hear no sound? Have you tried plugging in the A/V cables and connecting the camera to a television?

Functionality in Europe

Hey taliadoros,

According to the manufacturer, this particular model appears to allow filming in NTSC format only. Unfortunately this means that in order to play any video footage recorded on this camcorder, the device being used to play the footage back would also need to be NTSC-compliant.

Please keep in mind that while some electronics sold in Europe may be both NTSC and PAL-compliant, it cannot be guaranteed that footage filmed using your camcorder will be compatible with all multi-format model devices.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron

Playing DV footage that was recorded on a different camera

Canon camcorders have a non-standard head position. Borrow a panasonic or samsung camcorder (those two are compatible) and backup your casettes on dvds. If you want them to be on minidv readable on canon camcorder, connect it afterwards and send video to minidv through your camcorder. It will then be alligned the way that suites your gear.

Either that or go to the professional service that does conversion from minidv tapes. That usually costs around 15$ per hour, so if you have 10 or more hours of video, the less expensive way is buying an entry model of panasonic camcorder.
