I'm not an Acer expert, but I'm curious where on the laptop this seems to come from... hold your hand on it or your ear to the top... can you determine where the humming comes from? The only thing I could think of is the the HDD, but that should not spin when its off (maybe its in hibernation?). If you cant determine where its coming from unplug it and remove the battery, wihch should stop it. Plug the battery back in and see if it comes back while the laptop is still off.
it happens at times.. switch off the laptop by pressing the power button for say 10 secs till u notice its off. then switch on as usually. once the operating system is loaded go to desktop ->right click->properties->screen saver->power->
1.hibernate->uncheck hibernate. and to change closing the laptop lid actions go to
2.advanced->when i close the lid of my portable computer->do nothing
and doin so ur laptop ll be left untouched even when u close de lid. try t out !!
Laptops have a ACPI power management piece of hardware on the motherboard. Sounds like this driver is corrupt or missing. Go to Acers website and look for drivers and find the one that says ACPI or even chipset drivers may have it.
