I think that means you have have not downloaded the codecs needed to be able to play mp3 files. You need to go to open up terminal and type in "sudo yum install gstreamer-mp3 " or gstreamer-plugins-bad, or such to be able to use Totem and Rhythmbox/banshee to play mp3. To use XMMS, just download xmms-mp3 rpm, you can google for the details. I am not using Fedora so I can't give you the exact package name.

What is the features of fedora Linux operating system?

Fedora is an open-source Operating System which means that it is free to use, in that it does not cost any money and it gives you the freedom to manipulate or modify the software as you wish.

The requirements needed to install Fedora are also relatively low, allowing it to operate on older hardware. From Fedora's website (http://fedoraproject.org/):
  • 400 MHz Pentium Pro or better processor (comparable AMD, Cyrix, and VIA processors also acceptable)
  • At least 768 MB memory (RAM), 1 GB recommended for best performance
  • 10 GB disk space / storage
Fedora is also considered to be much more secure of an OS than Microsoft Windows or Macintosh.

Fedora also has a large selection of software available that will allow you to do a multitude of things, such as watch movies, view and manipulate photographs, listen to music, create documents, any much more.

I have downloaded some mp3 music from internet. burnt a cd on windows but my BOSE Music system does not play them. same problem with movies.

Hi there.

MP3 files is a compressed format and can not be played on standard CD players.
The size of a MP3 file is aproximately 11 times smaller than a normal CD file which mean that a lot of music can be stored on a CD compared to the normal format.

Your Bose System must be able to handle MP3 files - and if not possible you can not play these files on your system.

Just a comment: Be sure that the files are MP3 files and eventually not Zipped MP3 files.

I got a Riptunes MP3 player, I'm trying to download songs on there from iTunes. The player says there's no file when I try to listen to it.

MP3 players will not play any iTunes music because they are not compatible with the file format. iTunes uses a modified ACC file and the only players that will play them are apple products.

What is MP3?

MP3 is the prefered method for music downloads.

MP3 is a file format on which music is created for CD downloads which can be played either, on a computer or an MP3 player (like the one on your cell phone.)

Your computer uses pre-installed software called a media player to play the MP3 songs on the CD download. If you have a Windows based PC for example (Windows XP, Vista etc.) when you click on the download - Windows Media Player will open and automatically start playing the songs.

So, you're safe to download the music in MP3 format. It will be of good sound quality.

Fedora Install Troubleshooting

Hi if the cd is bad and cannot read, you have to go for a new cd before doing that, try this cd in another system and try to copy files to  the hard disk. if it copies without error, then write it on a new cd with less write speed, for example 12x or 16x speed and use it on your machine
thanks
