I have a new Apple Macbook pro, and I've put the camera USB port into my laptop and the other end in my camera to import pictures but the camera isn't recognising the USB. I also tried it with my old PC laptop and it does the same, I think the problem is with the camera itself. I have a fujifilm finepix Z35. I also ordered a new USB lead, but it's still not recognising it.

To connect your Canon ZR 800 camcorder to your MacBook Pro using a Firewire connection, you will need a Firewire cable and a Firewire port on your computer. Here are the steps you can follow to connect your camcorder to your MacBook Pro:
Locate the Firewire port on your MacBook Pro. It is usually located on the side or back of the computer and is marked with a symbol that looks like a small lightning bolt.
Connect one end of the Firewire cable to the Firewire port on your MacBook Pro.

MacBook Pros before late 2009 contain no SD card slot for the photo memory card to be inserted into. Instead, leave the memory card in the camera, attach the camera via a USB cable and wait for the card to show up on the desktop.
First a nitpick: your memory card is Memory Stick Pro Duo, it's not an SD card. Secure Digital is one specific type of memory card, distinct from xD, CF, Memory Sticks, and other memory card types.
Okay, not that I've got that off my chest, yes you can import pics to your laptop. Just connect a card reader to the USB port and then put your Memory Stick into the reader. Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files.
Card readers should be available at just about any department, electronics, or office-supply store. One important point to remember is to make sure you get a card reader that can read Memory Stick Pro Duos. If you get, for example, an SD card reader, it won't do you any good.
Try removing theSD memory card from your camera and inserting the SD memory card into an USBmemory card reader then connect the USB card reader into the USB port of aworking computer. The computer will see this USB card reader and SD memory cardas an external storage device. You can open the camera photo folder and copythe photos to your computer.
It's a good product but has it's limitation in terms of no CD/DVD drive, lack of USB ports, quite a small hard drive (80 GB as opposed to 500GB for a low end Macbook Pro), less RAM and smaller screen (11.3 inch as opposed to 13 inch for a Macbook Pro). For another 200 dollars you could buy a macbook pro which has higher specs.
