scanner failure; unable to print or copy items; What needs to be done to correct the problems?

  • Anonymous May 01, 2009

I have cleaned the mirrors and the lens. No way. The lamps are not defective. Parts are not available. It seems to be a firmware-problem. Does HP just want to sell new machines? I won't buy there with this experience.

The Scanner Failure light keeps coming on. I reset and it will come back on after a few minutes. I am able to print however. Can scan and copy a document after I reset until the Scanner Failure ligtht starts to blink..
Right now I just let it blink and only use the printer function.

It's a pretty common problem for this model printer. clean the flatbed glass inside will help and if possible clean the mirrors on the scanning head will completely solve the problem. Just remind, don't use any solution. And there is a very small chance is the granding wire connector loose. Good luck.

Follow the steps below to perform a fax diagnostics test. 1. Set up the all-in-one for faxing according to the setup instructions found in the product's User's Guide. 2. Make sure you have inserted the print cartridges and loaded paper before starting the test. 3. Press Setup, 6, and then 6. This displays the Tools menu and then select Run Fax Test. The HP all-in-one displays the status of the test on the color graphics display and prints a report. 4. Review the report. * If the test passes and you are still having problems faxing, check the fax settings listed in the report to verify the settings are correct. A blank or incorrect fax setting can cause faxing problems. * If the test fails, review the report for more information on how to fix any problems found. 5. After you pick up the fax report from the all-in-one, press OK. Then turn the printer off, and then on again. If necessary, resolve any problems found and rerun the test. If the test passes and you are still having problems faxing, check the fax settings listed in the report to verify the settings are correct. A blank or incorrect fax setting can cause faxing problems.

When trasmitting the receiver copy is totally dark

The exposure lamp is not coming on, try unplugging the machine for a few minutes. power it back up, Try making a copy, it uses the same parts as out going fax.
If that doesn't work, feed a page into the fax, press copy, if you look where the original comes out you should see a bright light, this illuminates the original so the scanner can see the page. If that lamp is not coming on the lamp or the control board for the lamp has likely failed.

Hope this is of some help.

Hp officejet d145 carriage error & scanner failure

Re carriage error - suggest cleaning the encoder strip. this is the plastic strip running parallel to the drive belt but about 1 inch above it. They frequently become covered with ink spray and so are impossble to read by the carriage position detector.

Beware.

Only use cold water and be very gentle. also make sure you dry the strip thoroughly before switching the machine back on.

Re scanner problem 2 possibilities.
(1) make sure printer power cable is connected directly into wall socket not through an extension cable. This can reduce the voltage getting through to the scanner lamp.

(2) if that don,t work then I suggest you take the scanner apart and clean the reference strip. this is a white bar on the scanner glass which tells the machine what the light level is. This can be a bit tricky so if you've never done it before consult someone who has or get back in touch with me. HP don't want you to do this but it sometimes works.
