It sounds as though your computers hibernation feature is malfunctioning, or your power setting are set to shut your computer off. If I were you I would attempt to disable both features, Go to Start in the bottom left, click on Control Panel in the Start menu, and then go to Power Options. Basically just tell it to never shut off any hard disks or the computer.
This usually means that your battery is not charging. Take the battery out and turn the computer on, plugged in only. Shut the computer down and then replace the battery. If the led light is still blinking red, it is time for a new battery. You can find a replacement battery on eBay for a reasonable price.
Two possibility , first the 1of the heat sinks may have lost it's thermal seal to the chips ie G.P.U. or C.P.U. this is more common when consoles are played vertically . Second but less common the G.P.U. temp feed connection has become intermittent and tripping a thermal shut down.
Remedy's are
Remove heat sinks for G.P.U. and the C.P.U clean off the old heat sink compound and replace with new ( articsilver 5 ).
If the console still over heats ( two red lights) then the G.P.U C.P.U will need to be re-flowed back to the board that normally corrects the problem in 90% of over heating problems.
Vaughn it sounds like the power supply is going bad, try another known good working power supply. If that doesn't work then the motherboard would need to be replaced. If the power supply isn't giving the correct voltages that could cause the computer not to turn on. If the motheboard isn't able to convert the voltages properly then the motherboard could be faulty.
If the blinking amber light is on the monitor, check the connection between it & the computer itself. Make sure the cable is not damaged & that it does not have any broken pins in the socket.
IF it's blinking it's probably an error code. If you have the manual see if it says what it means. If not, post the blink sequence here, maybe someone knows what it means.
