Question about Dell Inspiron 5160 Notebook

Inspiron 5160 - thank you!

I had the power problem (laptop not recognizing charger). thanks to your post I called Dell and they are replacing the motherboard and ac adaptor. I've had to leave my laptop plugged in for the past few months because of the problem and thought it was too expensive to fix. Thanks again!

I have the same power port problem, sometimes the system does not recognize the power port on boot up. While running is flickers on an off. You have to play with the plug to find a spot where the ac power plug will stay on. This happens constantly and it never completely recharges the battery. I've also lost the use of my usb ports, they seem to have burn out. And lastly my integrated audio has also failed. This is the second time I've had these problems after Dell reluctantly sent a new main system board.

I'm having this problem right now! I can't find the original post for this issue so can someone point me in the right direction? I had a dell technician here a couple of days ago and he replaced the ehat sink as they thought it was something to do with the system overheating and cutting the power but from other posts I have read, is it something to do with the jack IN the laptop where the adapter connects??

    It's quite frustrating!

I also have this problem. What a pain? I recently purchased a new replacement adapter thinking that it may be that and now was contemplating buying a new battery. I also can't find the original post. Should I get the power ooutlet in the back replaced?

You can either buy a new motherboard or get the power connector on ebay and solder it on yourself(much cheaper solution)

Battery led blinks orange on dell inspiron 5160

if the battery LED blinks orange, most likely there is a problem with the battery itself. Try to remove the battery and have the power cable connected to it. If there is no battery LED blinking, call Dell to replace the battery itself..

My video card is shot on dell 5160 do i have to replace mother bo

If you go to Dell there is a 99% chance that they WILL want to just replace the motherboard. This has forced many people to switch to Desktops and MANY people have switched completely from dell because of this problem. I would look into it a little more and find out for sure, and maybe call Dell.

Hope this helps ^^. Please don't forget to rate, Thanks

My AC power adapter for my Dell Inspiron 5160 won't stop beeping and now won't charge the battery.

The box on the charger is bad. Order a new charging cable from dell or another trusted reseller, making sure it is for the same model family.

Good Luck,

Dell Inspiron 5160 Black screen on power up

There is a small board that the power button is integrated into that connects to the motherboard. When this power board malfunctions it will cause this issue with the machine. It can, and quite often does, damage the motherboard when it malfinctions. You should take the machine in for a power board replacement and a diagnostic to make sure that the power board hasn't damaged the motherboard.
