I have a Sony Projection TV. After the set has been on for a while, the picture takes on a bluish hue and then goes off altogether.

You have a bad blue tube, you may be able to adjust this and get some more time out of it...If you take the lower front cover off the set you will see a focus block on the inside with 6 knobs. you only one to turn the one that is the blue screen. If you look at it closely you should be able to see the words screen labeling 3 knobs and focus labeling 3 knobs. then you should see B G R labeling the knobs. you want to turn the one that says B, and screen, turn it a little counter clockwise and see if this helps. If you still have the same problem then the only thing to do is replace the blue tube.
Good luck

Both the picture and sound work when the TV is turned on, yet the picture is distorted like a double picture and has a yellow hue to it.

Sounds like you have a convergence problem. If you go into the setup menu of your TV, there should be some settings to adjust the red, green and blue hues and re-position them so each color matches up. If this does not work or if you don't have a menu, your TV *might* have a circuit board with several plastic screws on it. These adjust the picture and it's a very tedious task to re-align each hue correctly.

My projection TV is an older model from 1995, which is probably why it has this circuit board in place of a convergence menu built into the TV.

If adjusting the convergence still doesn't work, you might need to purchase a new convergence chip.

greenish hue ? if so no the lamps typically control the brightness and allow the image to be transferred to the sets screen through the optic block and thats what i believe to be the culprit to your hue it it is a hue if not other issues could be amiss

Sony KP-53HS30 Projection TV has pink and blue hue w/timer blink

Depending on your TV, you may have a Color Temperature (Color Temp) and/or Hue setting in the menu. Use these options to adjust the picture to the setting that best suits your viewing preference.
If your TV has a Color Temp setting, you will normally have the following options to select from:
  • Cool: Gives the picture a cooler, slightly bluish appearance.
  • Neutral: Gives the picture a neutral, more natural look and appearance.
  • Warm: Gives the picture a warmer, slightly reddish appearance.
If your TV has a Hue setting, follow the appropriate step below to make adjustments:
  1. Move the setting to the right to reduce the reddish appearance.
  2. Move the setting to the left to reduce the greenish appearance.

3LCD Projection TV 2.5 years old displaying blue hue/blobs

I would first try a new lamp. If the reflector portion of the lamp has any defects, it could show up this way as the light would not be uniform. The next possibility is a defective light engine. The engine portion if not field repairable and would need to be replaced. Try the lamp first and let us know what happens.
